Brownlow Medal winner Dane Swan appears certain to be a Magpie for life, after signing a two-year extension with Collingwood on Saturday.

The 29-year-old, who won the Brownlow in 2011, is now tied to the AFL powerhouse until the end of the 2016 season.

Swan had reportedly been considering testing free agency at the end of the upcoming season – but he maintains he never seriously intended to leave Collingwood.

“I wasn’t interested in going anywhere,” Swan said in a statement.

“In a way, I’ve grown up at Collingwood.

“I’ve been here for 13 years and loved it all the way.

“I figured the least I could do is get things sorted out early, remove any potential complications or distractions, and focus on a big year.”

Collingwood general manager of list management Derek Hine praised the straightforward nature of the negotiations and said Swan would finish his career as one of the club’s all-time greats.

“Dane wanted to stay and we wanted him to stay,” Hine said.

“Dane undoubtedly sits comfortably in the upper echelon of the elite players of the competition and we are confident that he will continue to play to the level that all AFL fans are accustomed for the term of his new agreement.

“We are delighted that he will continue to build on his playing CV at Collingwood, where he sits among the all-time great players.”

Heritier Lumumba also inked an extension with the club, pushing his deal until the end of the 2015 season.
