Australia’s Casey Dellacqua faces an extremely tough challenge in the second round of Wimbledon this evening when she takes on Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska.

Dellacqua was just outside the seedings at the start of Wimbledon, but will climb to at least number 31 in the world even if she falls to Radwanska here. That would be a career-high for the 29-year-old, who insisted after a close-run thing in the first round against Anett Kontaveit that she wanted to keep learning.

And she will have to if she’s to beat Radwanska, who is seeded fourth in this tournament and is a strong chance to take her maiden Grand Slam victory. One of the most consistent players on tour, Radwanska should have no problem with Dellacqua if opening round form is anything to go by.

But Dellacqua has been good leading up to this tournament, and the hiccup in the first round shouldn’t happen again here. She has no excuses to not play her best tennis on the big stage against one of the world’s top players. Let’s hope she can pull out the stops and give Radwanska a serious run for her money.

Radwanska’s 6-1 6-2 win over Andreea Mitu in the first round signals what sort of form she’s in. It was a genuine thrashing from one of the tournament’s favourites.

She is also a proven performer on the grass at Wimbledon, having reached the final here in 2012. Dellacqua, meanwhile, will be hoping to make her second ever third round at Wimbledon with a massive upset here.
