Having secured a place in the ODI Tri-Series final with a three-wicket victory over England in Hobart on Friday evening, Darren Lehmann has confirmed his intention to continue to provide international experience to players not selected in the World Cup squad.

Upon questioning, Lehmann hinted at further changes to the Australian side to face India on Australia Day at the SCG.

“We’ll be pretty rigid with what we do once we get into the tournament, but for the moment, this gives us a chance, because we qualified for the final, to do something a bit different,” he said.

Gurinder Sandhu, Moises Henriques, Cameron White and Shaun Marsh have all been provided opportunities accordingly, yet their inclusion has not hindered World Cup preparations, something Lehmann agreed with.

“We had three guys come into the game in Hobart and they did pretty well,” he said.

The provision of such experience could well prove valuable come the tournament, especially given fitness concerns surrounding members of the squad, most notably Michael Clarke, following a strenuous stretch of matches.

Lehman outlined how, “we’ve got to manage that process”, and that “it’s pleasing we’ve got some depth in case we have some injuries”, yet he obviously holds high hopes for both the team’s fitness and performance, indicating “we want to get everyone 100 per cent fit for the final of the World Cup”.
