Records tumbled in the third quarter in Oakland yesterday as Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors shot a perfect 13 from 13 to etch his name into the NBA’s record books with 37 points in a single quarter.

It’s nearing All-Star week in the 2014-15 NBA season and the Golden State Warriors have amassed a league best 35-6 record. It’s proving to be a remarkable season for the Warriors, who sit atop the stacked Western Conference and boast the best offensive record in the league.

What’s more remarkable, however, is the Warriors’ backcourt tandem consisting of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Often nicknamed the ‘Splash Brothers’, both players are enjoying career best seasons statistically and have played a large role in guiding the Warriors to their impressive campaign.

Curry has often overshadowed Thompson, being touted as the current frontrunner for the MVP award, which is regarded as the NBA’s most prestigious individual honour.

But it was Thompson who did the overshadowing on Friday night against the Sacramento Kings, setting an NBA record for most points in a quarter.

Thompson did his best NBA 2K impression, lighting up the Kings in the third quarter for 37 points, shooting a perfect 13-13 from the field, including nine three pointers.

The feat in fact earns Thompson three NBA records: most points in a quarter, most three pointers in a quarter and most field goals in a quarter – equal with David Thompson (no, unfortunately that’s not his father).

After Thompson’s historical performance from the field, it would be appropriate to hail him as the ‘Splash Father’.
