North Queensland and the Gold Coast have completed an NRL coaching swap after the Cowboys signed John Cartwright on a one-year deal.
Cartwright will be Cowboys coach Paul Green’s deputy this season.
Cartwright stood down as Titans head coach in August, paving the way for his assistant and former North Queensland mentor Neil Henry to take over on the tourist strip.
Henry linked with the Titans after he was replaced by Green as Cowboys head coach in 2014.
Cartwright will officially start his new Cowboys stint on Tuesday.
“There’s no doubt John brings an outstanding coaching resume to the Cowboys,” Cowboys football manager Peter Parr said of Cartwright.
“His arrival is a huge boost for our club and gives us an outstanding coaching staff to take into the coming season.”
Cartwright was the Titans foundation coach from 2007 – a stint spanning almost 200 games.
He has also been assistant coach at the Kangaroos (2008), NSW (2004, 2011) and City Origin squads (2009-10).
The former secondrower also played 188 first grade games for Penrith including their inaugural grand final win in 1991, as well as 18 Tests and eight Origins.
