The reluctance by Tennis Australia to discipline young firebrand Nick Kyrigos for his repeated petulant antics over the past few months is bewildering to say the lest and beyond belief.

He has been given chance after chance, and has subsequently been called up to play Cup tennis later this year.

Why hasn’t Tennis Australia shown any fortitude or Leadership and sent a clear message to the Australian players on the ATP tour that unsportsmanlike behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances, no matter how talented a player you are?

Far from being an isolated incident Kyrigos has repeatedly offended and shown little or no respect to a number of his opponents. His now infamous remarks to Stan Wawrinka have drawn plenty of scathing criticism from a number of sources, and deservedly so. But has Kyrigos tempered his behaviour?

For some of the legends of Australian Sport including Dawn Fraser, Rod Laver and Greg Norman to feel compelled to publicly condemn Kyrigos shows how his antics have not only left his reputation in tatters, but also damaged the image of Australian Sport.

The story doesn’t end there though, now our new Davis Cup Coach Lleyton Hewitt has publicly stated that his first priority is to reinstate Nick Kyrgios back in to the Davis Cup team.

You can’t be serious Lleyton, surely not?

There is a very famous old saying, ‘A Leopard doesn’t change it’s spots’ and that would appear to be appropriate in the case of Kyrgios, so until he displays genuine remorse for his transgressions and takes responsibility for his actions his offensive and unsportsmanlike behaviour will only continue.
