Roger Tuivasa-Sheck hasn’t had the greatest season on the field so far, but it just got a whole lot worse, with the prize recruit being ruled out of the rest of the NRL season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The gun fullback, who set the record for metres gained in a season last year with the Roosters, was one of the Warriors’ key recruits in what was supposed to be a turnaround year for them. But just as Tuivasa-Sheck was working up his combination with his new teammates, he’s been struck down.

Now the 22-year-old will sit out the rest of the NRL season, and will require surgery to fix his knee.

Understandably, Warriors coach Andrew McFadden was less than pleased by the news.

“Roger is absolutely shattered and so is everyone around the club,” McFadden said.

“We had huge expectations about what he would bring to us this season and he was so excited about the role he had to play. He had settled in well developing his combinations and timing but now this. It’s the cruel side of football – we’ve certainly had more than our share of bad luck.

“Roger will have surgery in about three weeks and faces a long recovery but we’ll make sure he has plenty of support and care around him.”

Not only is it a shame for the club and its fans, but the game as well. ‘RTS’ was becoming known as one of the most exciting players to watch in the game, so it’ll be sad not to see him run around for the rest of the year.
