The former world No.1 and current 25th seed at Wimbledon has been in superb form, putting together her best run in the limited time she has had back on the tour since her pregnancy and birth of her first child.
While Williams has been pushed through matches a couple of times at these Championships, she is yet to drop a set and looked to be at her absolute best during the fourth round as she completely and utterly dominated Evgeniya Rodina.
The toughest battle came during the third round against Kristina Mladenovic with a 7-5, 7-6 victory, but she ripped winner after winner to take a 6-2, 6-2 victory yesterday and should be very fresh heading into the quarter-finals.
Giorgi also had a great win in the fourth round yesterday, knocking out Ekaterina Makarova in straight sets, but it hasn’t been all smooth sailing for the world No.52.
The Italian, who has come off a poor preparation and the relatively unexpected to parachute into the Wimbledon quarter-finals was pushed to three sets by Katerina Siniakova in the third round and Anastasija Sevastova in the first round, but has come good every time she has faced pressure.
Still, there is facing pressure, and then there is facing pressure off the racquet of Williams which she is sure to do at some point.
Prediction
Williams shouldn’t have too many problems in advancing through to the semi-finals here. Her level of experience and the excellence of her play across the first four rounds indicates very few players in the world are going to be able to come close to stopping here.
