'I've just won a stage of the Tour de France, mate!': Hindley grabs yellow jersey as Aussie blows Tour apart
Australia's Jai Hindley has said he is "lost for words" after a shock stage victory at the Tour de France earned him the leader's…
It was a great win by Thibaut Pinot, holding off a charging field following a daring attack with 17km to go. Cadel finished second with Wiggins right on his wheel in third.
More interesting, however, was Wiggins’ verbal tirade after the stage. The Brit laid a beat-down on Tweeters who had been accusing him of doping. Not entirely sure why but it smacks a bit of Cadel Evans circa 2008. Wiggins, like Evans was, is showing the strain of being the race leader and favourite.
Tonight’s long time trial should serve as a moving day at the Tour. Plenty of people will drop well out of contention while others might ride back into it. My tip is Fabian Cancellara.
Here’s the Twitter round up for State eight of the Tour de France:
Dave is obviously a fan of Guns’n’Roses…
Cadel Evans’ response to the aforementioned Wigg-out. Warning of profane language.
Paul Sherwen weighs in on some of the tactics of Liquigas on last night’s stage.
And here’s Mike Tomalaris’ look at today’s stage. Obviously doesn’t think Fabian is a chance… #ishenuts?
Amen Gossy. Always great to feel better than you thought you would…although tonight’s time trial might just change that
Michael Rogers was another to weigh in on Wiggo’s outburst #standingupforateammate
Spartacus on breaking the record for number of days in yellow without winning a Tour #whatalegend #spartacus #fabianforpresident
Spartacus on the stage finish in Switzerland and applauding teammates Tony Gallopin and Jens Voigt #shutuplegs
Bernie must have been really hurting if Cav was waiting for him! #onceinabluemoon. Can’t blame Cav for this though. If you’re riding nearly 200km a day, food is for eating, not for looking at.
Is Richie going to put in a slower time trial to save himself for Wiggo?
Sounds like every B Grade crit at my local races #notsurprised #tourdefrance. At least Koen is staying positive though!
41km could take Jens less than one minute #jensvoigtfacts #jensisbetterthanchucknorris.
