Two meetings to look at on Wednesday night, with my attention at Bathurst and Ballarat.

Bathurst

Best bet: Race 2, Number 3: Sweet Heaven
Australian debut came here last Wednesday and it was pretty much a barrier trial for her, winning comfortably in slow time, but she wasn’t extended at any stage. Clearly a harder assignment for her here, but has the gate speed to lead and win again.

Next best: Race 6, Number 3: Eagle Commander
Quality three-year-old who should take a power of beating here. His run was full of merit when resuming here last Wednesday. Dragged back from the wide gate and worked home with real purpose. Drawn much better this time around, should lead and prove hard to get past.

Value: Race 3, Number 1: Hurrikane Dude
A two-year-old who takes on the older horses, but he is heading in the right direction for the Hewitt camp and from the pole, think he only runs well. Led throughout to win at Young last start in a race which was weaker than this. Does have gate speed, so he can hold a forward spot and run a bold race.

Ballarat

Best bet: Race 1, Number 1: Aussiepride
Lightly raced eight-year-old is racing really well without winning but that can change here. Has attempted to lead throughout his past few and while he hasn’t greeted the judge first, he has stuck on well to place. With Chris Alford steering, he should have little trouble holding the front and proving hard to get past.

Next best: Race 2, Number 6: Abundance
If she does everything right and brings her best manners, she is the one to beat. Three-year-old taking on the older horses and no doubting ability wise, she has a bit on these. The query is her manners because it can let her down, but if she puts it together, she wins.

Value: Race 5, Number 1: Iamawingate
Happy to speck this guy each way. He had a suck run behind the speed last start at Maryborough and battled on well to run fourth behind a smart one, He’s Ideal. Should get a lovely sit behind the likely leader once again and do no work, from there, proving a threat with clear air.
