Two meetings to look at on Monday, with Cranbourne and Ashburton getting my focus. Down below is best bets for the respective programs.

Cranbourne
Best Bet: Race 2, Number 4, Helansin

Bet of the month. He generally races best and wins when he is able to find the front and hasn’t been able to do that in recent runs, drawing the second row. That all changes here with a front line gate and with Chris Alford to steer, expect an aggressive steer, find the front and hopefully lead throughout.

Next Best: Race 3, Number 7, Star Burst Boy
Short but should be winning. Emma Stewart trained juvenile that lit up the Maryborough track last Sunday in a sizzling trial win, running fast time, even for a trial for the babies. Draws outside the front line, but looks like the speed is there to cross, lead, and prove too good.

Value: Race 6, Number 8, Lotakevi
Drawn inside the second row and potentially gets buried back on the pegs, but I think he’s racing well enough to be a 1×3 play at odds. Had a suck run behind the speed at Warragul last time and battled on well when third. Three back at worst I’m hoping for, does no work and could flash late.

Ashburton
Best Bet: Race 7, Number 5, Krug

The NZ pacing ranks is looking for fresh, new blood to challenge the All Stars camp. I think Krug could well fit that criteria. He resumes after a pretty strong Queensland prep, where he was a super winner at Redcliffe before being close up in the Rising Sun and Queensland Derby.

Outstanding trial win to get ready and in a race with a few question marks over key rivals, I think he’s ready to rock and roll.

Next Best: Race 6, Number 4, Majestic Man
I think he’s a super each way bet. He probably hasn’t set the world on fire compared to last prep when racing in Australia, but he gets a really good set up here. He’s drawn inside his main market rivals, he has gate speed so think he will lead, he loves the mobile start and at his best, he just beats these.

Value: Race 1, Number 1, Glitz And Glam
Tricky race to start the meeting but I think this girl is worth an each way ticket. Hasn’t exactly set the world on fire in her career to date, but wasn’t too bad at Geraldine last time out from a similar position. Hopefully can sit near the speed and hopefully at double figures, she can run a positive race.
