The Everest Carnival continues at Randwick this Saturday where it is Spring Champion Stakes Day. Here are my five plays across the meeting.

Bet One – Each Way – Race Three Number 13 Fast Train
It’s a bludger of a race and I think each way, he’ll run a decent race. Yes, it was only just a Hawkesbury maiden last time, but the manner in which he won, the gap he put on them was that of a Derby prospect.

The blinkers really did the trick and I’d be shocked if he didn’t measure up. I’m happy to take the odds near double figures to find out.

Bet Two – Win – Race Four Number 8 Doubt Defying
I’m a bit surprised he isn’t shorter in the market given the lack of depth. This bloke hasn’t raced since the Toowoomba Cup in the Autumn where he was on speed, doing work and just couldn’t quite see it out late behind Morendi.

Good fresh record and for mine closed off well in a trial at Doomben.

Bet Three – Each Way – Race Six Number 9 Sesar
The double figures look clear overs and he should start single figures come jump time. I had him penned down as a Derby horse after really catching the eye late over the mile in the JJ Atkins, but here he is at 1200m with the Coolmore likely to be his GF.

He’ll love a fast run 1200m, which is what we will get here, and he looked sharp in a recent Doomben trial. Wet track no issue either.

Bet Four – Each Way – Race Seven Number 12 Frankely Awesome
How good is she? I don’t know, but at the odds, I’m happy to find out. Made them look like camels on debut at Newcastle, a race which has produced subsequent winning form. This girl then went to a Class Two at Scone and ran outstanding late splits to bolt in.

She looks a beauty and I’ll be shocked if she doesn’t measure up.

Bet Five – Win – Race Eight Number 5 I Am Serious
Best of the weekend, and clearly. She’s run a couple of rippers at her last two starts but unfortunately for her, she’s bumped into Avilius. No horse of that class here, I don’t think, so she gets a great chance to get some blacktype success.

$2.8-$3 on offer for her at the time of writing looks very generous.
