Surely Belgium gets an inclusion here?

2014 FIFA World Cup: Dark Horses

Thats only because of the fact that Victory had access the the fan market earlier. ‘

Other clubs bring(ing) high-profile players to boost the overall ALeague’ – you seem to be forgetting about Berisha 😉

The death of the Euro snob: What Villa means to the A-League

Could not agree more, I was talking with some mates about an ‘NPL Championship’, which pretty much comprises of the best teams from the different States/ Territories of the previous NPL season to create a Second Aus league. The highest finishing takes the place of the bottom team in the A-League – making the whole process much more entertaining. I don’t think it’s possible to put dates on it yet though.

Surprise results as A-League's expansion teams are decided

I think the FFA should have given South Melbourne FC an A-League license a while ago. A geographical divide would only have made the Melbourne derby better. With the futures of both City based Melbourne clubs looking secure, I would agree that Wollongong looks like the viable option. Would love to see the Hellas in the A-League though, hopefully as the NPL strengthens and develops it will become possible to gain promotion to the A-League.

In the meantime, any Melbourne residents who need a football fix (that doesn’t involve a television) get down to an NPL match and support your local club. It’s cheap as chips and makes for a ripper afternoon with your mates.

I’ve put money on Belgium to make the semis. Who do you think will win it Fuss?

2014 FIFA World Cup: Socceroos final squad announced

Agree with AZ – couldn’t give a toss what people call it. I’m just counting down the days.

Marking off the days before the greatest football show on Earth

Collingwood were rubbish

What we learnt from Round 11 of the AFL season

I agree, pretty funny that even the capo didn’t have one on though.

The 2014 Soccer Cup: A guide

I agree with Fuss, I don’t think Dylan took into account the fact that it wasn’t our best 11. Dylan it may not have looked very nice, but direct football is probably the most practical style of play for the world cup. In Ange I trust, good luck for the world cup boys!

Neill, Ognenovski cut adrift from the Socceroos too soon

Brilliant article.

Really positive signs for the cup.

Thursday night shopping FFA Cup style

Wenger gets far too much stick, good to have someone give him the praise he deserves.
Good read Deb

My obsession with a French football coach

Totally agree, good points.

Don’t leave us Wandering Poppa

I disagree, a surefire way to ensure there are no bidding wars. With City usurping Heart it seems fair enough not to be publicising targets.

Don’t leave us Wandering Poppa

I agree I doubt he would publicise his interests. There are whispers of him looking to japan for the new marquee – just rumours of course, but it will be interesting to see where he begins his search.

Don’t leave us Wandering Poppa

Figures for the same clubs are still rather low. I don’t think that renders my point invalid. A lot of italian supporters are notoriously fair-weather – i’m saying the A-League needs to emulate the fan culture of many German teams.

Cheers for the comment

The A-League needs to hold on to its best players

I wouldn’t disagree, i’m simply asserting that we need to build fan culture in the A-League, we can do this better by retaining the better players.

Cheers for the comments.

The A-League needs to hold on to its best players

My argument is positive results require great players – not exactly mind boggling. Better results=Better fan numbers at games. I think success is key in engraining these clubs into the culture of their cities. Then, when these clubs do become of absolute importance to the people of their surrounding area success doesn’t matter as much and clubs can sell for positive business.

Until such time I believe clubs need to keep their best players – regardless of improving the national team, so that reliable support is created.

The A-League needs to hold on to its best players

The reason i hold my opinion as I do is due to the fact that the A-League is still very young. Other ‘selling leagues’ have consistent fan support.

Whilst the league continues to develop we cannot afford to lose players that generate greater interest in the league. Other leagues and teams can sustain selling due to better club investment and consistent interest. Arsenal (not so much now as they are no longer required to sell) will always be Arsenal, BVB will always be BVB and Dynamo Dresden will always be Dynamo.

Smaller teams in Europe can capably sustain selling because their clubs are deeply affiliated with the social culture. 2. bundesliga clubs like FC. Union will live on because of it’s hardcore fan support, something the A-League needs to create – until it does A-League teams MUST hold on to their players, to build said fan culture. When this is created and the team and its fans become more important than the players, selling the best players is unproblematic.

This is the same reason the Ligue 1 needs good players. As everyday interest in Football ( or sport in general) is typically quite low in France. Which is why buying huge players creates that interest that is required to build better fan support, this is also why we shouldn’t worry about creating ‘Top Teams’ in the A-League.

The A-League needs to hold on to its best players

As are the helpful comments apparently.

The A-League needs to hold on to its best players

Not yet. TV is implemented across Asia next season.

@Bondy Why do you think Hersi is an astute removal?

The A-League needs to hold on to its best players

Well said mate.

The A-League needs to hold on to its best players

Which is why i think he will be picked ahead of Taggart.

The A-League needs to hold on to its best players

Forlan and Totti seem reasonable, especially since Forlan is playing in China – certainly wouldn’t come cheap though.

The A-League needs to hold on to its best players

Celtic is world class with world class fans. They beat barca last year in the Champions League.
