Wait, is 100% humidity rain? It can’t be, cos it rains differently in Sydney than it does in Melbourne

So after a massive break – there’s a few sore bodies out there – the scrum gets done, and the Chiefs evacuate quickly. They force the Crusaders back down the field with a few smart kicks, before a dodgy clearance from Nadolo heaps pressure on the Crusaders.

Chiefs are now in shooting distance after the Crusaders for some ruck shenanigans – something like “not binding on anyone”

After a lot of toing and froing – kick here, dropped ball there – we’ve got a scrum 5 from the sideline just about on halfway

TRY!!! Chiefs (Low)

The Chiefs run it left from the scrum, and a rush from Israel Dagg is exploited by Tamanivalu who stabs a kick through the gap left behind and Low pounces on the ball to score!

Ah, now we get to see McKenzie’s weird smirk thing he does

It’s clear neither team really wants to hold onto the pill, it’s too wet. So, lots of kicking.

A contested ruck leads to a dropped ball – it looked like it went backwatds – and so the Chiefs have a scrum…

Actually it was a Crusaders scrum. Must have been some knock ons from the Chiefs. Where are you Rugby Tragic, to fix all my errors?

Anyway, Mo’unga’s shaping up to kick a penalty after the Chiefs got pinged for fiddling around in the ruck

Ah, here’s the phase play. The Chiefs win the scrum, and make a few inroads zig zagging their way across the Crusaders line. Damian McKenzie gets bored however, and stabs the ball down the back left of the Crusaders defence. The ball, though, rolls into the try area.

Israel Dagg goes the quick option, and smashes the ball down the middle. After the Chiefs lose the ball, the Crusaders counter straight into the broken play. They’re looking dangerous, but just at the end as they go for pick n go, the Crusaders lose the ball.

Where’s the phase play? Thats so easy to describe. Ok so the Crusaders win their lineout, thump the ball down the field. The Chiefs then drop the ball, somehow, trying to a quick lineout. Then the Crusaders have a lineout, and theres an almighty shove of a maul, but then the ball’s dropped again!

Now we have a Chiefs scrum just inside the Crusaders half

This game is very topsy turvy. A good push from the Chiefs results in a bit of a Crusaders shambles, and they so the Chiefs manage to relieve pressure by winning the first ruck and shoeing the ball out of their own half.

Attacking runs from the Crusaders end up in dropped balls, and vice versa from the Chiefs. There’s a few good kicks in between, and now the Chiefs find themselves with a Crusaders lineout deep in Crusaders territory

The Crusaders put on a massive shove at the scrum, and the Chiefs rush the ball out. That rush probably results in a poor pass from the Chiefs scrummie, and Chiefs back Brad Webb drops the ball right in front of his posts. Oh noes. He at least grabs the ball so the Crusaders cant pounce on it. Now the Crusaders have a scrum in the same position

5′

The Crusaders start mauling their way, with Nadolo – who gets huge whoops – holding the ball at the back. But somehow, in the huge pile of men that collapses near the try line, the Chiefs manage to turn the ball over. Now its a Chiefs scrum 5m from their own line

Chiefs vs Crusaders highlights: Chiefs win historic Fiji clash

Another penalty! Tackling the lineout catcher in the air. I wonder what the quickest team yellow is – The Chiefs are already making their way to 14 men.

The Chiefs are already being told off – and I tell you what, the field’s not looking great at the moment either. The Chiefs collapsed the maul from the lineout, and the ground beneath aint looking firm.

Anyway, Crusaders went for the lineout again, and they now have it, attacking the Chiefs line

Chiefs vs Crusaders highlights: Chiefs win historic Fiji clash

Alright we’re off. We’ve got our first penalty already of the game. Richie Mounga could have kicked for goal but instead he thumps down a great kick to get a lineout. Crusaders already 5m out

Hey everyone,

Welcome to the Chefs vs Canterbury Crew game live blog.

Absolutely horrid tropical conditions – rain, wind and 100% humidity

Chiefs vs Crusaders highlights: Chiefs win historic Fiji clash

This, pretty much. The A-League and the clubs finances/management isn’t solid enough to grow, at the moment.

Also I’d like to add the idea of a North Sydney team is just silly. Middle harbour splits Northern Sydney into two, the whole region is culturally apathetic and Manly is the only pro team north of the harbour in any sport. Case in point: North Sydney. Go there on a Saturday night. A place across the harbour, outside of the lockout laws, high density should be thriving. It’s dead

A vision for a big A-League expansion

Thanks Digger!

Crusaders vs Waratahs highlights: Crusaders punish the Waratahs in the wet

Thanks for joining me tonight, and commenting.

The Crusaders were easily bested the Tahs and were a cut above.

It’s all ifs and buts – 19 points difference should put paid to that – but after scoring half of their points in the first 10 minutes or so, the 2nd half was a try a piece, with Foley’s miss meaning that the Crusaders edged the 2nd half 7 – 5.

The wet conditions, and the fact they only play each other once this season, means that it’s hard to get a proper handle on the differences between these teams. Except to say, the Tahs really lack in the second and back row departments – their rucks, crashball and most of all the lineout was poor.

Dagg and MCNICHOL, I should add, had very good games.

That’s my jumble of thoughts – I’ve got three things going on at the moment – but please add yours below if you haven’t already.

Cheers, thanks for joining, bye!

Whoa, that was an extended overtime. The Waratahs had the ball and wouldn’t just give up.

Crusaders win, but don’t take the BP

Games really stagnated. really stagnated. There was about 5 knock ons in 5 seconds just then.

Crusaders scrum in the same place, just on the right side of the field this time.

More knock-ons. Crusaders knock it on, before it dribbles back down the Tahs backline. Guildford picks it up and actually makes some good metres…until he coughs it up too.

Andy Ellis is coming off for Drummond. Ellis has played 150 games for the Crusaders tonight. That’s a lot! And to think, only two of them have been against the Kings

Not much has happened, except a few dropped balls. Though there was a bit of handbags then, that’s always exciting.

Anyway, the Crusaders have a scrum 40m out.
