“Why would Nadal want to have Federer’s career?”

17 slams including 7 Wimbledons & at least 4 titles at three of the GS championships; 5 season-ending number 1 rankings; six season-ending championships; a consistency and dominance that Nadal could only dream of. Why wouldn’t Nadal want his career?

“Federer since the arrival of Nadal and Djokovic has been gets his handed to him.”

That’s not true at all. While Nadal does have a much better H2H, Fed has won more titles including more slams and has attained more season-ending 1 rankings since 2005 (the year Nadal won his first slam). As for Djokovic, Federer has a superior H2H.

“Federer got the majority of his majors against no hopers like Roddick, Murray etc

You can only beat your competition. Anyway, of the two players you mentioned, Roddick has had a fine career which has seen him reach three finals post-2005 (BTW, it really amuses me when people criticize Roddick seeing as he’s had a better career than about 99% of players); while Murray, a genuine star, defeated Djokovic to win the US Open. Personally, I would put Federer’s competition up against Nadal’s any day of the week, excluding the two players.

You can have Nadal’s career. It’s a wonderful career. However I would prefer Federer’s. Federer is also IMO the second greatest player of all time (after Laver).

Nadal's impressive comeback continues

Nadal would probably consider giving up his record over Federer if he could have Federer’s overall career.

Nadal's impressive comeback continues

Considering the club you support, I find it incredible that you would make such a comment. I don’t know how you can write it with a straight face, considering that the only difference between Carlton and Melbourne is that Carlton hasn’t been caught.

I must say, one of the extraordinary things about this is the level of hypocrisy. One would think that Melbourne is the only club to have tanked.

Commonsense required when sanctioning AFL clubs

Yes, Serena plays in the modern era, which also means she has advantages those other players didn’t have, such as better technology, superior science etc….. Ultimately, the modern era argument only goes so far. Not to mention that while the depth may be better during Serena’s era (debatable), there are arguably less great players during her era than there was during the eras of the other players.

“But the ability to exploit her game is easier now as opponents can find out more about her game than in the 70′s and 80′s.”

Not necessarily true. Considering the number of times Navratalova and Evert went up against each other, you dont think they had the ability to exploit each other’s game?

Anyway, my point is that you can’t make a blanket statement like that when it is just your opinion.

Why Serena Williams is the real world number one

I would dispute that, so perhaps next time you want to make a black & white statement like that, you can place it in the form of an opinion. Personally, I would place Evert, Graf, & Navratalova all above Serena.

This reminds me of when you wrote that it was determined that Kallis was a better all-rounder than Sobers (!), when it was just your opinion. You think that Kallis was better than Sobers/Serena is the best since 1970, fine. But don’t pretend that your opinion is anything more than that.

Why Serena Williams is the real world number one

Considering Rosewall never won Wimbledon, I don’t think he’s even one of the five best tennis players of all time.

My best 20 sportsmen of all time

I should have been more specific by noting that I’m speaking more about the time of the year when the team is announced. It’s true that it doesn’t necessarily come up in general day-to-day conversations, however neither does most other awards, the Brownlow aside.

Time for the AFL to bring back State of Origin

Thanks. 😀

AFL must crack down on Breaking Bad in fight against drugs

Considering that Federer is arguably one of the two greatest players of all time (many would say the greatest, although I personally wouldn’t), to describe him as overrated is absurd.

Andy Murray's troubles come from inside

It was a great article. 😀 One part that I found to be interesting:

“Some say the illicit drug policy, where they are sent for treatment for the first two strikes before being banned after the third, is too soft.

“Drugs are illegal,” the lock-them-up lobby repeats. “Why are they treated differently?”

Well they are not – we all live under a three-strike policy.

When police catch someone carrying drugs for personal use, they will be given a diversion order, not once but twice. Only on the third offence will someone be charged and go to court (only to get a bond).”

There is a lot of hypocrisy going around, as represented by his last two sentences:

“Football has a drug problem and so does the rest of society. And at least the AFL is trying to do something about it.

Many reporters will be covering today’s AFL drug summit. None of them are subject to drug testing in their workplace.”

“We dont have players and spectators who really give a crap about All Australian honors simply because theres no one to play the team against to give it a quantifiable meaning, and the reality is its just a player marketing exercise to get more money into their next pay packet”

I don’t agree. All-Australian honors (whose meaning is based upon it being the Team of the Year) is one of the game’s greatest and most prestigious awards. In some ways, it’s more prestigious than club Best & Fairests, seeing as it’s a league award. Not to mention that the attention paid to it each year is enormous.

Time for the AFL to bring back State of Origin

Wookie, no they don’t.

Regarding this:

“The players have no right to actually make the rules of the code,” Kennett said.

“The code rules have got to be set by the administrators in the interest of all players.

“And if that code says the taking of illicit drugs and performance-enhancing drugs is illegal and if you’re detected you’ll be suspended for a year and your pay reduced by 90 per cent, so be it.” ”

I would be interested in knowing what a lawyer has to say about that. My belief (and I could very well be wrong) is that the AFL had not legal right to make any policy about illicit drugs unless the players agreed to it (which is why Tim Lane, for instance, has long criticized the players for agreeing to testing).

Regardless, I couldn’t care less what Kennett has to say. Whether it be about prayer rooms, or this, he is one of the last people whose opinion I would seek. Furthermore, as someone who neither commentates nor is still involved in the game in an official capacity, his opinion is IMO irrelevant.

You can have it back. 😀

“Owns a yellow Ferrari”

What is it with owning a yellow Ferrari? What’s wrong with the classic red? 😀

Seriously, I don’t hate him, however I do dislike him, and I do dislike Hewitt. I don’t see why he’s being Australian means I am obligated to barrack for him or to start liking him. This isn’t the Davis Cup or the Olympics.

Can Tomic haters move on?

Or 2015. I’ll believe it when he actually does it, but until then, I don’t think he will ever admit it.

WADA in dark on Lance admission talk

Well, guess what? I can say the same to you. Your opinion is completely wrong.

Sport's best and worst of 2012

Uh, I’m not wrong, it’s my opinion. You do realize this is an opinion site? And that I’m just as entitled to my opinion as you are to yours?

Sport's best and worst of 2012

I don’t think I’m dreaming. Carl Lewis was arguably better.

“And allow coaches to sit on the side-line bench with their charges, as Davis Cup captains do. What’s the point of spending hundreds of hours on the practice court together, only to be told coaches must zip it in the player’s box on competition days?

In the bad old days of amateur rep rugby, coaches weren’t allowed on the field at the half-time huddle. Thankfully that archaic rule went by the boards and if rugby can change, tennis can.”

I love that rule. Tennis is a game that is played between the individuals (or pairs), and not between coaches. You can’t compare tennis to rugby, they are completely different games. One of the joys of tennis is seeing whether or not a particular player is able to change his strategy or whether he decides to stick it out in the hope that it will eventually see him prevail. A coach would ruin that.

This so-called archaic rule has served tennis well, and there is no reason to change it.

BTW, that you ask what the point of spending hundreds of hours on practice court together, only for the coach not to be able to say anything on the day; that’s like people asking what politicians do when they aren’t in parliament. A great coach will have helped his charge in the massive amount of time they spent together so that when his charge is unable to communicate to him, the charge doesn’t need to.

Let's get rid of some sporting rubbish in 2013

“Greatest Olympian ever without a doubt”

I think there is tremendous doubt about that. As great as he is, and he’s awesome, there’s a couple of track & field athletes who can challenge him. Bolt (and I disagree that he’s a jerk BTW) could soon challenge for the title.

Also, where’s Anna Meares? IMO she was the standout of the Olympics considering what she’s come back from.

Sport's best and worst of 2012

He was an all-time great.

Six Australian athletes that should have been all-time greats

I don’t agree with the writer, however I would argue that the only thing unaustralian is your use of the term unaustralian.

Pulling a hammy: did Pup dog it?

Matthews not only looked like a porn film extra, but he also had the strength of Hercules. A bizarre combination. 😀

Putting together the AFL Unlikely All Stars team

Regarding Jakovich, he had the talent to be one of the greatest of all time. It’s one of life’s tragedies that he didn’t fully exploit that talent.

Putting together the AFL Unlikely All Stars team

Surely you’re not serious? Cook is very good, but considering the quality of batsmen to have played for England (such as Hammond, Hobbs, Hutton and Sutcliffe), to describe Cook as the best batsman to ever play for England is rather extraordinary.

Alistair Cook should eat at cricket's top table
