Let’s hope so. 🙂

The serve and volley is back

Yes it is. And all the players you mentioned are in it.

Only 3 inductees per year, I think. :/

Has Steve Smith become invisible?

What are the answers?

An ODI quiz: The last time Australia played Pakistan

Inherent sexism, as bad as the “Old Boy Net”, raises it’s ugly head once again. 🙁

Women's sport weekly wrap: Mitch Starc's bat shines for the Sydney Sixers

One’s not enough? 😀

Australia need a serious leg spinner to compete in India

Upvote. 😀

Adam Zampa is a must for the Test team in India

Good article, Ben. I really enjoyed it. Even though I’m a Liverpool FC, and an Adelaide United FC supporter. :/

Adelaide United prove that red goes faster, but not always forward

Why leave a comment? You got it exactly right. 😀

Formula One season in review Part 2: Three drivers who under-promised and over-delivered

Good to know, Felix. And just seems logical, to me. 🙂

Lehmann ready to drop 184-run Renshaw

“May you live in interesting times”, Liam?
That’s a Chinese insult, you know. :/

2016, sport's most surprising year

Off the top of my head, zero. 😀
Couldn’t find the stat with a quick search. :/

Two topsy-turvy SCG Tests between Australia and Pakistan (Part II)

Got it in one. 🙂

The Socceroos' qualification campaign will be a walk in the park

Short answer, NO!
Remember what happened to Wayne Phillips?
A wicketkeeper is precisely that. Any ability with the bat is a bonus, not a pre-requisite.
Players like Adam Gilchrist come along only once in a lifetime.
Stop trying to shoehorn bit-part all-rounders into the Test side. It will never work.
Good enough for T20, maybe even ODIs, but Tests are exactly that. Any deficiencies in any player will become obvious and be detrimental to other aspects of their game.
Peter Nevill is really the only answer for the Test ‘keeper spot imho. Although, if Tim Paine could get his place back in his state side, he would be the next cab off the rank for mine. 🙁

Could Peter Handscomb fix Australia's wicketkeeping woes?

Ronan, I presume you used Lillee and Thompson’s official Test records.
I wonder how their stats would be if you included the WSC. (Always a bone of contention).
Also, I always say these sort of comparisons should only be made at the end of their test careers. Who knows what might happen in the future. :/
Besides we all know the pitfalls of comparing across eras….
Let’s just say Lillee and Thommo were greats. McGrath and Gillespie are greats. Hazelwood and Starc have the potential to become greats. :/

Starc and Hazlewood have eclipsed Lillee and Thomson

Beat me to it. 😀

Starc and Hazlewood have eclipsed Lillee and Thomson

Try using the mute button. I’ve been doing it for years on the cricket. :/

Women's sport wrap: Since when were women's voices annoying?

Alyssa Healy is Ian Healy’s niece. :/

Women's sport wrap: Since when were women's voices annoying?

Yep. Not a team, as usual; but a collection of stand-out performers. Nobody in this line-up would be considered a 5th bowler. Probably a 7th option in their respective teams. :/

The Roar's 2016 ODI team of the year

I say they’re flag favourites. But I might be slightly biased having barracked for them since their inception. :p

Cornwill's season previews: Adelaide Crows

This Aus team is supposed to be post 2000.
Half the players you have in your”Rest Of The World” wouldn’t qualify. :/

Australia's best ODI XI over the last 20 years

Gaze is still the best for me. Though we’ve had plenty of talents who could’ve made it in the NBA, but never went/got there.

I think you’re missing a bit of psychology about the guys who “don’t make it in the NBA” and come here as imports and do well. Some even (almost) dominate. You must remember they have blown their big chance in the “majors” and have to perform (and brilliantly) if they are to ever get another chance. Suddenly they are doing all the hard yards and taking the extra training that they hadn’t (when they got to the NBA) because they got by, back in college or high school, on sheer talent and youthful ability. This is the second chance everyone dreams of. :/

Is Patty Mills the greatest Australian basketball player of all time?

Yep. That’d be my team. Although I don’t mind playing two spinners. But only on a horses for courses basis. 🙂

Paine and Khawaja should be in the one day side

Professor, It was the national “team” i.e. the cricket administrators who let the players down, not the other way around. And had been doing so for decades. It was just time that change happened.
It’s just sad that it took such a dramatic step for this change to come about. :/
WSC was commercially unviable, but only initially. By the end of the first season merchandising was going great guns. By the end of the second season it was making a (small) profit on the ground. Without factoring in merchandising and advertising revenue. The “establishment” caved because they finally saw what was happening. Their own “brand” had been reduced to “2nd class citizens”. For the ACB and other interests to survive they had to welcome these players back into the fold with open arms. Or the whole Test/Shield structure would have fallen into dust, and become an anachronism. :/

Should WSC records be counted in Test records?

Yep. Have to agree with you Bob. This era, these players, this competition….The greatest of all time. 😀

I would like to think their stats should be included in official records, but it really does open a can of worms. I wouldn’t, on the other hand, like to see the rebel tours to SA stats included.

It really does open up a minefield. And that’s without considering the position of those in power (who obviously just want to cling to it), that if these matches are recognized, it legitimizes any further “industrial action”-type breakaway comps. :/

It’s well worth the discussion, though. Thank you for the article, John Coomer. 🙂

Should WSC records be counted in Test records?

The greatest, the best….
You name it any accolade. Only Michael Jordan lives up to the hype in any sport. :/
