What is the kiss of death for any AFL coach? When the Club Presidents says, “Our Club has full confidence in the coach”.

Dew bye date: 'I don't think it's misleading' - Suns chairman backs CEO's call to back coach just days before sacking

Its is sometimes hard to watch after the beautiful football they played last year and then they serve up this tripe. Admittedly they have had a huge injury list this year which has certainly affected team cohesion but as you say Tim, basic errors they never would’ve made this time last year.
“Oh how the mighty have fallen stripped of their weapons, they lie dead.”

Footy Fix: Sure, the Swans' shocking kicking butchered a win... but the Cats blew it just as badly

Ratogolea is Scotty’s love child and he has persisted for far too long. Henry is a far better player. IMO Ratogolea upsets the balance of the backline.

What is your suggestion on holding the ball Tim? I would suggest 3 seconds. IMO anything less would discourage the player picking up the ball in a contest. We don’t want to see a situation where the player attacking the ball has less advantage than the player attacking the ball carrier.

Six Points: Cram the Crows condescending, Bucks, Swans weren't that good, and the rule change AFL must make

As much as wet toast’s fall from grace has attracted a lot of commentary, is it possible that new AFL talent is too thinly stretched? Granted poor recruitment has killed a once great team who did not plan well for life with low draft picks and relied too much on existing talent (and sacrificed too much for a player they could’ve picked up for peanuts in their own back yard.)
Will uncompetitive teams like this become the norm once Tassie enters the competition and dilutes the talent pool even further? Are we destined to see one, two or even three teams as perennially non competitive?

AFL News: 'Playing for cash' - Eagles legend's brutal call on senior stars, Hardwick's coaching reveal

Maybe a compromise by playing a GF at a neutral ground outside of Melbourne if the two grand finalists are non melbourne teams. EG: This year WA could be nominated as the ground if 2 non melbourne teams play off for the GF as neither WA teams will be in the GF this year, whereas there is PA Crows and Lions all with a chance. That would eliminate a last minute nomination. The main problem always is the drop in revenue for Australia’s premium sports event. If the AFL hates anything, it’s not extracting every dollar they can.

Does hosting the grand final at the MCG really provide an advantage for Victorian teams?

What really hurt I was late in tipping so I got Melbourne as default and missed my chance to get one up on a few. I have never tipped against my pussies so that hurt. Not the first time I forgot to put in my tips I usually forget on average two or three times a year and end up with default away teams. So far I think It has only ever advantaged me once. BTW Mays tackle on Rowan was half hearted. He was well out of petrol tickets by then. He couldn’t have caught Rowan in a Taxi.

Footy Fix: Anyone who seriously thought the Cats were missing finals... here's your reality check

You lost me when you said Geelong was a tenant team. Being forced to play games at a venue other than their home ground does not make them a co tenant.

Does hosting the grand final at the MCG really provide an advantage for Victorian teams?

Riewolt may not be the player he was but its not only about replacing his playing ability there is his football smarts and on field leadership and mentoring of younger players that is valuable. They are not replaceable by a younger player.

There's life in old Tigers yet - why Richmond would be mad to move Cotchin and Riewoldt on now

I picked the Dees because I thought Oliver would be back in the side so a lucky one for me.

Footy Fix: Ferocious Demons shut down the Magpie machine at last... but is it repeatable?

Only Don could turn a convo about Geelong into a convo on Freo. I seem to remember last year the Cats weren’t in the conversation pre bye. As Scotty has said before. It’s not who you play but when you play them. He was ridiculed for saying Geelong could win it at the start of the season and I see that quiet confidence in his demeanor now.
Injuries aside, the cats have only played about 3 home games up to the bye. They will have 6 home games after the bye with a pile of players back. The only danger games barring injuries I see for the Cats are Port in Adelaide, because the returning cavalry after the bye will be underdone and the Pies and possibly Brisbane in Brisbane.

Too many injuries, or not hungry enough - what's Geelong's real issue in 2023?

This was never going to fly. Not one statement I have seen or heard from the little so far proffered suggests the comments, if true, were anything more than inapropriate. Making them to someone who is not caucasian does not in any way infer the comments as rascist. We have now reached the point where natural justice, in that the accused gets to face his accusers and test the strength of the evidence is no longer a pre requisite of justice.
The careers of these men have been damaged regardless of the voracity of the evidence. In short Fagan and Clarkson have faced little better than a kangaroo court. It is sad to say but in this age of virtue signalling, these people come out of the woodwork like chinese cultural revolutionists waving Mao’s little red book, with a religous fervour more akin to the Spanish inquisition.

The AFL's response to Hawthorn racism investigation has turned me off footy

Outs for Geelong: Stanley, Dangerfield, De Koning, Bowes, Close, Henry, Guthrie, Rohan, Stengle. After 6 straight in the first Richmond managed 10 goals six to 9 goals 5 in 3 quarters of football and the umps certainly didn’t hinder Richmond. A decent team would’ve buried the depleted cats. The Hubris from the Tigers supporters is laughable. The Tiges are cooked and the only ones that don’t know are their supporters. If they manage to scrape into the 8. the Cats with a full team will bury them in the finals.

Footy Fix: Are Richmond back... or is the Tiger time machine good for one trip only?

I think its disgraceful that this hasnt been brought to a conclusion by now. Clarke and Fagan deserve to give their side of the story to these allegations and the findings based on evidence released. The ongoing damage to their reputations with no end in sight is inexcusable.

'Destroyed the fabric of this guy': North great takes aim at racism process after Clarkson stands down

I have been to football matches on and off for years and booing has always been a part of the game. Umpires use to get booed by just about the whole crowd when they walked on the field. I don’t do it but it is part of the spectators letting off steam. It only seems to become a problem when it happens to indigenous players. There are many non indigenous players booed for different reasons from the crowd. The assumption is it is always racist with no factual evidence either way. Racism exist in every culture. To suggest buddy who has been a controversial figure at times is booed because he is an indigenous player then it would follow every indigenous player is booed, yet some are among the most loved in the game.

I will try to address a few issues raised here as succinctly as possible. Firstly, team names. GWS and Gold coast suns are generic names that don’t give supporters any sort of name that is a focal point. “Lets go down to western Sydney, or lets go down to the Gold coast to watch team training” just doesn’t have the ring of “let’s go down to Richmond to watch Richmond train.”
Before someone brings up wet toast its important to remember wet toasters hate “easterners”, especially if they happen to also be Victorian, so for them “West Coast” is a rallying point.
I’d like to see the figures on how many supporters were picked up purely by changing the name from Footscray to “Western” Bulldogs. As to Hawthorn moving and changing to yellow and green. Firstly the person suggesting that has appalling fashion and almost as apalling of the designer of the current colour scheme.
“Average” temperatures differ from actual temperatures markedly and playing in a Hobart winter will find players more likely coming off with frostbite rather than a playing injury and with a population of only around 220,000, large crowds are most likely just a fantasy and it will become just another team suckling on the AFL teat ad infinitum, AFL heartland or not. Also, can they supply 45 AFL grade players?
The system cannot be continually propped up by dipping into the Victorian player well and wondering why it is hard for teams like North Melb to compete. IMO another team will guarantee some clubs to be perpetual cellar dwellers.
If the AFL was answerable to shareholders there would be no GWS or GCS. (And in fairness possibly no North or ST Kilda).
The AFL and the competition don’t need another white elephant.

Welcome Tasmania, but the AFL should be a 16-team competition so three clubs must go

Buddy wouldn’t get a game at Geelong.

Footy Fix: The Cats are back - but the Swans made it embarrassingly easy. Again

You mentioned Geelong lost there first three games and then only beat injury depleted teams yet you failed to mention Geelong’s injury depleted backline in the first 3 games, that included Kolojasnij Stewart Henry and Duncan. Or that they were missing Stanley and Stengle all premiership players against Sydney.

Footy Fix: The Cats are back - but the Swans made it embarrassingly easy. Again

One could say that Chris Scotts efforts last season were due to the injection of some new assistant coaches. It is hard to gauge how much influence the assistants had at Richmond. Dusty and Riewolt are past their prime and they have a few injuries.
I don’t see a lot of Richmond but they appear to have lost the ability to defend a lead. Is that Dimma’s inability to adjust the game plan when things don’t go to script, too many players past their peak, or have coaches just worked out the tiger’s weaknesses? Certainly injury has played its part in helping to nobble Richmond and I often wonder why so many fail to take this into account when discounting a teams performance. They will need at least 3 or 4 players back before anyone can be sure where they’re at, although IMHO you’d have to be optimistic to see them in grand final for the next few years.

Hardwick's shortcomings are being exposed: Richmond's inability to win close games falls on the coach

Atkins into the centre was the catalyst in the second half. He took the first three possessions in the third quarter which helped negate Hawthorns drive out of the centre. Duncans 31 possessions and Kolo back helped although Dekoning and Henry are still out and now Bews.
Cam Guthrie has been terribly out of form. After being benched at half time he came back into the midfield but still looked underdone. His kicking and handball was at times wayward and far from as sharp as he can be, but at least Danger is starting to click again. I think Z Guthrie and Bews (out at half time) were the only premiership players left on the backline who have played in all four games. From a Cats supporter’s perspective the signs were positive.
I’m surprised Sicily got away with that very late “tackle” on Cameron.

Footy Fix: Premiers back on track, or is one of the greatest quarters in AFL history just a dead Cat bounce?

“Not one of the great teams of the 21st century” Must be a leading contender for the most fatuous remark of the 21st century.

Have the Cats finally run out of lives?

Meanwhile in the real world, the reasons are obvious and I understand why Daisy is not welcomed. Her gender is irrelelevant.

Daisy Pearce changeroom controversy highlights AFL’s lingering sexism

Good synopsis of the games. The Collingwood boganaty were out in force as usual. Not exactly known for the number of brain surgeons in their ranks although I suspect a lot more familiar with lobotomies. I remember telling Peter the scribe when the pies drafted Ollie Henry they would be just minding him for two years. He was and is a Geelong boy through and through. He was always going to end up at Geelong.
Considering injuries to Stewart and De Koning in the game in what was already a depleted back half and a fairly poor mid field effort, the Cats did not do too badly. I currently cant see much future for Parfitt at the club.

AFL Round 1 Power Rankings: Hot Pies, Carlton cold, Crows cooked, Port hits the spot

B2B is hard to do. No team has managed to do it in normal seasons. Hawthorn in the draft compromised years and Richmond in Covid. Then again I have always believed a little luck is neccessary to win any GF.

AFL season preview: Melbourne and Geelong are proven heavyweights, while Brisbane only wish they were

No, but the majority of AfL suporters and players do.
