Rugby, cricket and racing tragic. Why do they even have other sports? “You’re missing a great game ref !”

Agree PL, just wish those emerging guys like the Lonerghan brothers, the Jock Campbells, the young IC at the reds, Duncan P, could be playing rugby of some sort in the absence of the NRC.

Dave’s Dads' Army: Will old age and treachery overcome youth and skill?

I wouldn’t take it too seriously O. Just a stream if consciousness over the lunch break yesterday, knowing there is no code of any kind this w/e and only the squad to consider. In DR we trust but the difference this year (courtesy of a two massive financial losses) is that we have no NRC, no development tour and in the absence of those two, no old school mid week games on the Spring tour to get a better look at fringe Wallabies players of any age or stage.

Dave’s Dads' Army: Will old age and treachery overcome youth and skill?

Rennie has done his homework. Cooper against the Boks In Queensland. He loves this. V the ABs anywhere, not so much. Probably out most skilful flyhalf ever from a passing and kicking point of view so pleased for him. Go well.

CONFIRMED: Quade Cooper returns for Wallabies at No.10, Rodda starts, two debutants

Donaldson may not be as skilful as Harrison but looks a little more effective ie runs the show better ?

'We want to back Noah': Every word Rennie said on Quade, Fainga’a, Kerevi and Tate calls

I’m leaving out JOC, MT and Hodge who can all play there but are not specialist flyhalves IMO.

'We want to back Noah': Every word Rennie said on Quade, Fainga’a, Kerevi and Tate calls

I don’t disagree and think NL has a long way to go. I think once they realised that JOC was out, they went for Duncan P and then the stop gap, insurance of QC. In Rennie & Co’s defence, the players have failed to seize that opportunity in the last few years with neither Foley nor QC dominating but few other options in Debrecini, Hegarty, Jono Lance etc. It’s a long list of next gen’s: Harrison, Stewart, Mason, McIntyre have all had their chances at SR level and have Beene sent away with a to do list. Donaldson is still emerging. Of all that lot Rennie must think NL and Duncan P are most likely?

'We want to back Noah': Every word Rennie said on Quade, Fainga’a, Kerevi and Tate calls

Wilson and Niasarani are the best 2 number 8s IMO. Samu is reliable but no view to the future with that selection ? Can anyone shed some light on that?

'We want to back Noah': Every word Rennie said on Quade, Fainga’a, Kerevi and Tate calls

They all have the skills but decision making is the main skill of the flyhalf. That is why JOC and NL have the nod. I think this is where QC and Harrison fall down. Great passing and kicking skills and, in Harrison’s case, a brave defender, yes.

'We want to back Noah': Every word Rennie said on Quade, Fainga’a, Kerevi and Tate calls

I think they planned on JOC being the first choice 10 and perhaps MT the second choice and it just hasn’t panned out that way, the former through injury and the latter through form. Let’s hope we look back, as England did with Wilkinson, and be glad they had patience

'We want to back Noah': Every word Rennie said on Quade, Fainga’a, Kerevi and Tate calls

Knox could play. It may be only 51% true but they reckon DK once pulled his young number 12 aside at training and said “ it’s like this, I don’t tackle, and I don’t get tackled, alright?”

The Test match the rugby world needs

Yes, surely the go, was to have a united message to the media, or better still from Sanzaar reassuring the faithfull and struggling fans that they will do their best to go to plan C or D. Marinos needs to lead. That’s what he is paid the big bucks to do. A cheeky question on Kolbe did he touch the ball more times in that last 10 minutes than the past 5 tests put together? I only watched the 20 minute highlights and did see the 9 pass to Pollard twice. Perhaps it was Kolbe in a state of confusion. I will check! Yes, yes winners are grinners and all that but its tough chewing.

The Wrap: COVID strain stretches Rugby Championship to breaking point

I see It’s 3:56 am eastern Aussie time and insomnia had me read through every comment. If we put aside the grudges, and there are many (please keep it in the right spirit JJ), the crux is that we all desperately need the rugby to proceed. A post Olympics lockdown world is pretty grim. We need to have faith in our collective administrators to sort this out. That’s why we pay you the big bucks Marinos. Stop the whining and blaming in the press and get on in the phone and sort it out. Communicate with Rennie, just as you should have communicated with Nestor (see Aus women’s coach debacle). Cometh the hour, cometh the man….this will be intriguing.

'Forever putting up roadblocks': Marinos names likely new date, steps up NZR criticism, as players 'shattered'

Yes, pinning the WBs hopes on the Giteau Law change alone, would only delay the real changes that need to be made. Short term, face-saving exercise to divert attention and buy some time…Too harsh? Maybe.

Goodbye Giteau Law? RA set to scrap controversial rule

At the moment I’m thinking McMahon, Arnold and Kerevi are the only contenders but I guess going forward there may be a lot more. in the past players like Digby Ione have left at the peak of their powers. Covid might keep a few more at home short term but a worry beyond that for the super rugby au sides.

Goodbye Giteau Law? RA set to scrap controversial rule

There are 15 minutes of live rugby per half under the current deal….Given the players are full time professionals and have never been fitter, I guess the poor things could get through 15 minutes a week. ????

'Grossly negligent': Lions legends call for end of finishers and impact subs to make rugby 'safer'

There a lot of props now that have played both sides. From memory for the Wallabies Kepu, AAA, HJH for example. But if you choose 3 out 4 that are frontrowers, and the fourth is a halfback, every other position can be covered by improvising.

'Grossly negligent': Lions legends call for end of finishers and impact subs to make rugby 'safer'

I honestly think they are using player safety as a front to make changes to the game as a spectacle and joy to play.

'Grossly negligent': Lions legends call for end of finishers and impact subs to make rugby 'safer'

Must have changed from a player safety point of view.

'Grossly negligent': Lions legends call for end of finishers and impact subs to make rugby 'safer'

Agree. It just dawned on me…actually, give them an extra 7 players. Then make the 15 reserves play a 40 minute curtain raiser. Reserves can’t go on as replacement in the main game, unless they play the full curtain raiser! All those contracted players will get more footy, especially those young guys that are missing out development wise.

'Grossly negligent': Lions legends call for end of finishers and impact subs to make rugby 'safer'

Apparently, the IRB is considering introducing a toilet break, because the water boys are on there that much that the big blokes are struggling to make it the end if the 40 minutes for a number one….or should I say 60 minutes.

'Grossly negligent': Lions legends call for end of finishers and impact subs to make rugby 'safer'

Relax. Best fix will be today’s Wallabies victory. ???? You heard it here first. Should be a cracker. Banjo is in lockdown, so very grateful to have Bledisloe to watch between these two great countries.

NZR can't give tickets away as New Zealanders turn nose up at Bledisloe II

Well overdue. Yes agree, limit to 5 and let them please themselves to avoid the fake injuries. Schoolboy rugby, or even your local first grade is simply better to watch because the reserves are the second XV. So you don’t replace a player with a lesser player who has already played a full game, unless the injury is genuine. And speed it up as the big blokes a getting 3 injury breaks and two tmo referrals a half to rest. It’s taking 60 minutes to play 40. It’s used to take 45-50.

'Grossly negligent': Lions legends call for end of finishers and impact subs to make rugby 'safer'

Good article. As a sport, we need to have this talk. The hour it took to watch the second half (15 minutes of live rugby) was up there with a bad trip to the dentist, I once had. I didn’t go back for 8 years! At least this series will be another 12! The Springboks are not the bad guys. The Lions were just as guilty. They both are playing by the current laws, the spirit of the game being another matter. Like the tax department, World Rugby has to step up and change the laws and the governance.

Springboks win series but rugby loses

Except these days, there will be 8 fresh players on their team as well. But yes, get your point.

Welcome back Lachie! Swinton confirmed as Wallabies name their team

Have 3 brothers ever been picked on the same reserves bench, for a test before?
