Ok – so your a very committed Hooper supporter! I’m not anti Hooper I just think we need someone bigger and quicker. He played his heart again tonight against the Brumbies and without him the Waratahs would’ve been in trouble. But that’s a provincial team he’s up against and the likes of Same Cane & Josh Van Der Flier are going to make it hard for him at the International level. Anyway it won’t surprise me to see him picked in the training squad tomorrow but it will stun me if he starts at 7 against the All Blacks.

Fare enough!

I think Hooper has been one of the most committed wallabies on the paddock for the past decade. Results haven’t always gone his way but you can’t deny his effort over the years. However, he is getting older and slower and was never the tallest or largest jackal so I thinks it’s ok to question his continued selection. For mine he is no longer a starter – maybe select him for experience and as finisher but I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t go to France.

You must have watched a different game Christy! The Crusaders smashed the reds at the breakdown constantly disrupting their attempt to establish some pattern of play and that falls heavily at the feet of the reds back row – simply not up to the task. None of them will be picked in the Wallabies squad on Sunday if we seriously want to perform at the World Cup! As for Tate he was average at best tonight with the exception of the vision for his deft kick to set up a try – he seemed frustrated by the mess at the breakdown and not his normal self. He’ll make the Wallabies squad along with Petaia who played well.

Brilliant!

The Wrap: Ever wondered what would happen if this column was written by ChatGPT?

KCOL – well clearly they do because the NRL manage to sell their product to broadcasters for a lot more than the ARU can get for ours and they manage to fill stadiums that rugby currently struggles to. I love Rugby and I think it’s an infinitely better game to play and watch than League but the majority of punters clearly think otherwise. I hope the new kid flourishes when he comes across but if it were my money I’d be trying to fund the worlds best scrum!

'Twice the money, half the work': V'landys trashes 'easy money' for Suaalii as Smith adds All Blacks sledge

Well I’m hoping the exact opposite Short Arm and I reckon the ponies have got the cattle to make a game of it. Unlike some teams it doesn’t matter who wears the jersey these boys will give everything. Go the Brumbies!

SRP RD 5 talking points: Brumbies white flag fizzer, Hooper vs Cane, hailing 'Harry Wreight'

I’m happy to own my tip – Brumbies will seek to play a tight set piece game, kicks downfield to be touch finders and full court press at the breakdown. The ponies by less than 7 in a thriller! What’s your tip Numpty?

SRP Round 5 teams: Rebels lose key men, Tate benched, Brumbies rest FIVE Wallabies, Waratahs suffer injury crisis

On reflection surely the reason is that the ACT Brumbies program is simply better than any other states particularly NSW’s based on its efficiency – it produces more wallabies per $ and per number of players than NSW’s and by your own measure of ‘mainly being NSW B players’ it converts them in to wallabies more effectively than NSW can it’s firsts! its done that for about 20 plus years now so surely it would pretty dumb to get rid of it!

Your getting a bit silly now – but to help stir your obvious extensive rugby memory let’s just start with 3 – Gregan, Larkham and Roff.

Your right Peter – there’s a lot beyond what Hodgson can bring that someone else is going to have to cover. I can’t help but feel that the loss of Laurie Fisher from the Wallabies coaching group is going to be very hard to cover.

CONFIRMED: Eddie turns to ex-NRL star for World Cup in risky first Wallabies coaching appointment

Those are very flattering odds for the Brumbies who are without 4 key players from last year – Sio, Simone, Fainga’a and Banks – all Wallabies. I think Simone will leave the biggest hole. Looking forward to it – if I wasn’t a Brumbies fan I’d put some money on those Waratahs!

Waratahs predicted team: 10 shootout, teen prodigy set to feature as coach aims to be Chicago Bulls

Fabulously skillful 12 and really unlucky not to have played more for the Wallabies . Playing with Clermont in France now so can’t see him being one of the three imports allowed.

'Nightmare for coaches': Backline tweak and backrow conundrum - Predicted Brumbies XV

I think if Tom Hooper we’re fit you could play him @ 6, Bobby V @ 8 and have Samu come off the bench. Both Reimer & Brown are excellent 7’s and nothing will be lost no matter who starts.

Crack, crack, crack goes the broken record! So much angst about one man you’d almost think it was personal.

Give it a beak Jimbo – this article has got nothing to do with McKellar or your seemingly relentless campaign to see him dumped.

They let the Brumby journeyman Simone go Jimbo! Agree with your assessment of where Perese stands in the centre pecking order.

'I was at breaking point': Why season-ending injury was 'blessing in disguise' for Wallabies' rising star

Hey Jimbo – just taken a screen shot of this comment (feel free to do the same with mine) so I make sure I remember it for next year! My prediction is QLD will finish no higher than 3rd of the Aussie teams – NSW look very strong and must be favourites to lead the Aussie SR charge but I wouldn’t write off the Brumbies who I’m sure will make short work of the Reds without Taniela!

Whose stocks grew despite injury, who was a waste of money? Wallabies' winners and losers from 2022

If actions speak louder than words that’s all you can conclude particularly with reports Foley will also be added to the squad! Big mistake going back to the past on both accounts in my view but I guess we’ll see on Sunday morning.

WALLABIES TEAM: JOC gets redemption shot after 'stinker', Foketi's first start, prop to debut

It sure did Nick! I thought the defender was offside but if we are going to play that strategy we need to make sure the half is protected better – am sure they have worked on that this week.

The Thursday Two-up: Recalibrate, reset, or full steam ahead?

Not strange – most back up 10s play different games to starting 10s e.g. Barrett & Mo’unga!

Life after Cooper: Wallabies' 2024 gameplan development starts now

Dusty – you are a man after my own heart – Brumbies and Wallabies tragic to your bootstraps! I could watch the 2004 Super Rugby GF any day of the week. And its funny given your battle with QED above that it was Merhtens injection into that match that turned the Crusaders tide not Carter stepping up!

Rugby News: Stewart shocker - Reds ace leaving but NOT for the Rebels, Holloway to debut for Wallabies, Porecki OUT

How about Hooper as a finisher and not a starter – start with Samu or some other larger bodied 7 and bring Hooper on for the last 20-30?

Hooper is brave and elite, and changing a captain is momentous, but it's a risk worth taking

It’s not out of disrespect for the player or his commitment and passion but it’s time we recognised that Hooper is just too small to play 7 these days – it’s a larger part of why he’s ‘cooked’ because he has to try and go so much more out of his smaller frame. England targeted him throughout the series for jusr that reason and Eddie new Rennie would remain loyal to Hooper! Sorry to say it but we need to use the rugby championship to try someone bigger at 7.
