I would love if the AFL became less Victorian centric. It has held the game back for so long, and many Victorians are so one sided on the matter that they fail to see the benefits of expansion.
Hopefully New South Welshman see the team GWS as the first NSW club that it is. It is not a club shipped from Victoria. Sydneysiders can then put their own football culture in the team rather than being restrained by a melbourne fan base.

What the AFL has to do to become king

thats true. It brings another way of thinking about it.

Yellow and Red cards are handed out for offences that are outside of the rules. Suarez deliberately commited an offence to gain an advantage. That is twisting the rules and definitely cheating.

Is this World Cup really promoting Fair Play?

Good Pope. Benedict is just an interim pope. Interesting that Religious leaders all around the world (including australia) get involved in their sport. You would think that with God/s eye/s looking over them, the players would want to play to the rules.

Is this World Cup really promoting Fair Play?

Could i be described as an islamic al-qaeda extremist then?

With that analogy the players who cheat could then be described as the Catholic Priests. The Pope has been forced into action on these issues after being reluctant to admit it was so widespread.

Perhaps FIFA could focus beginning the Fair Play message at the local level first then, and then move onto the world cup. This would help prevent misunderstanding that Fair Play exists at an International Level.

Is this World Cup really promoting Fair Play?

Perhaps they should set a precedent of extending it in situations like Suarez then.
Kewells ban would stay at one for example.

Arent FIFA able to examine decisions and extend the penalty. I swear i read it somewhere.

Is this World Cup really promoting Fair Play?

So you reckon Sepp should not get an extra term?

Changing president is only one man. Perhaps they need a clean out of the whole exectuive.

Is this World Cup really promoting Fair Play?

So was Suarez being ‘fair’ to Ghana? Or would Uruguayans not care if it happened to them.

Is this World Cup really promoting Fair Play?

Exactly what will happen when under 12’s start using hands to stop certain goals …

Is this World Cup really promoting Fair Play?

So they continue with an error ridden tournament?

Is this World Cup really promoting Fair Play?

It doesnt need to be stop start. They can simply have someone watching the game on television who has can talk to the on field ref.

Or they could take a leaf out of Australian Football and introduce goal umpires!!

That tackle is not from behind.

Do you think that Ghana should have been in instead of Uruguay?

Watching a sport where anything can happen (even if the rules say you cannot do it) is ridiculous. The Spirit of Soccer has been wounded at this World Cup.

Is this World Cup really promoting Fair Play?

Thats very interesting, and as most people would agree can be interpreted in a large variety of ways.
Several things that i can gather:
– more people are watching the soccer world cup in USA than ever before
– basketball is perhaps losing its popularity, but still maintains incredible ratings across 7 games, of which the first 3 could be very boring to the casual fan.

This growth in soccer compared to basketball could be due to a number of reasons. One that i think could be of great interest to the NBA is, are they doing enough to target the american latino market??

I still dont quite get how the defensive fouls in basketball are given!! But i do know that the culture in basketball is that when a foul is given, no matter how noticeable, players alwasy give the ‘what was that for!!’ look.

I only heard that the match broke soccer television records in the USA. Did not hear anything about it beating the NBA ratings. Could you post a link that i could read?

Great win by the Lakers as well though…. my team!!

Examing in tackle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jVPCAC1lA8&feature=related) we can see clearly that Cahill was aiming for the ball.

These decisions question the integrity as the umpires decisions vary so much.
Soccer may reflect life, but it should also reflect a fairer life. Craig Foster keeps saying that soccer is democratic. Is he lying?

I agree that a lot of AFL fans do not like the constant rule changes, but they also dont like changing cars, or moving house. I reckon they are a minority.

Video replays dont need to be the answer. A simple referee who watches the game and lets the officiating ref know of incorrect decisions can be implemented. The incorrect decisions can then be reversed (except for incorrect offside calls).

It is very hard for a player to tell if he is offside. But if video technology was introduced they would be caught all the time.
Technology does not have to be introduced at all levels. Ive played soccer matches without sideline refs before.

It comes down to the fact that if so many games at a world cup are decided by incorrect decisons, does the best team win, or even make the semi-finals??

Is this World Cup really promoting Fair Play?

I dont agree with The Roar tabs. They are very Sydney centric, and seek to promote the imperialistic agenda of FFA and FIFA.

Most Australians know football as aussie rules, not soccer.

Underdogs do win in football, but only if they play better.
People watch football because these is action all the time. We see thrilling marks, spectacular tackles, and spell binding tackle breaks. Oh and the occasional goal…
Fans are absorbed by the one on one matchups ..

Is this World Cup really promoting Fair Play?

I had not heard about any Ghanaian player being offside. But i still feel that Suarez was going against the spirit of the game when using his hands.
I also think that goals when a player is offside are a type of cheating (not as bad as hands). However it is more the fault of the referee. That is why soccer requires a radical overhaul of how the rules are policed.

Is this World Cup really promoting Fair Play?

Thats what im getting at.
Soccer is probably the sport which needs video technology the most as a lot of games are decided by a point.

In aussie rules the high amount of points scored means the best team on the day wins.

Mate it was all over the media, that Cahill did not entirely deserve the red card. Many speculated that a yellow card could be enough.

The referees in soccer can change the game result far too easily. That is something which puts me off the sport.

On the subject of rule changes in football. I completely agree with most decisions that the AFL has made in recent years. I reckon it has made the game a hell of a lot more exciting.

The A could actually be something of incredible value to Austrlalia as a national when growing the league (not the sport though).
International growth for footy means increased awareness of the AFL and hence Australia, and improved exporting.
England benefits from the English Premier League, India from the Indian Premier League …

However to grow the game overseas i do agree that we need to stop referring to it as Australian Football, and call it something that differentiates itself as a product. (could do the soccer strategy and call ourselves football 😉 ).

Also, Wimbledon final is on, a match being dominated by Nadal.

What the AFL has to do to become king

Beaver,

I am also. I believe that is a great variation that can help grow football internationally, and also be a very a strong introduction for juniors.

What the AFL has to do to become king

Im one supporter of the mark not being paid for a backwards kick in a certain zone, but they need to keep them in the forward line.

What the AFL has to do to become king

So you are basically saying that you could play AFL level Football next year if you trained hard enough?

Perhaps you could make a Fbook group – I have skill … lol jk im a footballer,
