The Weed

The Herald Sun reported that Murray Weideman has passed away. I first saw Weideman in the late 50s at Victoria Park. We were playing…

Is Les talking directly to you, PTS?

Les never fails to hit the nail on the head.

Buckley must go. It’s as simple as that. I can’t for the life of me understand anyone, other than his mates, who would want him to continue.

His replacement? I’m not keen on Clarkson. I think it should be someone who is adjudged capable of being the next Clarkson/Kennedy/Barassi/etc.

Whoever it is must bring life back into how Collingwood plays the game. Please God, it couldn’t get any worse than the majority of the last ten seasons.

Put an end to this era.

The truths some Collingwood fans have never faced

I don’t know anyone on here personally. I like to read comments that disagree. But Les chooses not to engage so I guess that’s his way. But, he does write a good article and I judged him on that. I’d like to write an article every day supporting Mason Cox to be selected at FF in the seniors. Because I think its a terrible waste to the team. Not eliminating Darcy Cameron, just having an extra tall. They win the big games when it counts. I suppose this is the forum for that sort of thing. Having served briefly on a board I rule myself out. SNL? maybe.

An open letter to Eddie McGuire

That isn’t criticism Peter, that’s just abuse by opinion.

An open letter to Eddie McGuire

This is an era of a desultory time for Collingwood, it has been for ten years, and will continue to be unless we have somebody of the stature of Tom Hafey come along to coach the club. I’m not looking for a saviour, the world’s has enough already, I am wanting someone of integrity.

There are two occurrences that I find unavoidable when assessing the Club.

The first is onfield, the Geelong finals game last year it was a playing watershed. I was there, and I have never witnessed players wearing OUR black and white performing so badly. In a physical sense and with an absence of spirit. Nothing happened.

The second is off the field. This is far worse and strikes at everything that Collingwood has always strived to sell to its members and supporters. That we stick together side by side. The ditching of good footballers in such a fashion was a low act. Just a low act. It was business, it was personal.

The bare-faced belligerence after having perpetrated such a sporting crime I suggest will stain the club for decades. Because you can’t claim one thing for a hundred years and then whitewash over the emotions of those you represent.

That sentiment grew out of a poor, struggling community, for real, it was tough, men and women drank too much. Crime was accepted as a way of life. It wasn’t romantic to have the old man roll home drunk from the six o’clock swill.

The admiration and loyalty for the club were familial. Talked about incessantly on the streets, in the pubs, at school and in the factories that stood tall among the two up and two downs. Whispered by absonders during yet another moonlight flit.

For the most part that social condition has passed or perhaps taken a different form. In general, peoples social condition has changed, but the spirit is recognisable in their sporting interests.

To those who say, move on, stick together and all the rest of the bullsh#t, I say no. Let’s correct what has happened. Let’s do better than adopt prison mentality, or worse still, a corporate board, in other words.

Let’s mean what we have sung for so long, by so many.

The media may be concerned with the possible harm to Buck’s mental health. Not wanting to heap pressure on him at a time in his life that already has great pressures. It’s a balancing act and a serious concern, for anybody.

Buckley isn’t the only reason for Collingwood’s demise, but he’s a chief architect

I don’t think your criticism is justified Chris.

Collingwood's salary cap mystery

Your logic precedes you Les. Well done.

I think there is one dynamic you haven’t considered and that is human nature. The plus for having business people involved on the board is that they bring prestige and hopefully expertise. However, if they have not been as vigilant or knowledgeable of football clubs then they are a minus. This is because they would not want their reputations coupled to bad decisions, mismanangement. So it is not in their interests to expose what can only be a stuff up.

If this is the case, then the future of the club may be more at risk than we think. A strong leader would prevent this by laying it out before the members, press etc., immediately and thereby ensure a positive start to the future. One meaning for Floreat as in Floreat Pica, is ‘The Love of Wisdom”.

Collingwood's salary cap mystery

Norm Smith is the only one I can think of. 😛

What my mother taught me about football

Mark Williams for mine.

Buckley isn’t the only reason for Collingwood’s demise, but he’s a chief architect

HEAR, bloody, HEAR. The sooner the better.

Buckley isn’t the only reason for Collingwood’s demise, but he’s a chief architect

Cox’s career has been nobbled by a complete lack of ability in the people who are supposed to be delivering the ball to him. That is a tragedy.

"We thought we could be better than we are": Buckley reacts to Pies' latest loss

I watched the seconds online last Friday. Unfortunately, Sier looks like a very lazy footballer and I don’t think it’s reversible. He did well at the stoppages, moving with determination over a short distance. In general play he either walked or slow jogged without a purpose. He didn’t appear to be reading the play, just holding both arms horizontal and asking the ball user to kick it to him. Why someone would kick it to him when he is so close to them, after they have won the ball, is beyond me.

The last minute change to include the new ruckman was interesting. He competed very well, I would be surprised if he isn’t recruited by a club, sort of a Big O type from Brisbane.

Ohenry has great hands and he really needs to be in the seniors. McCreery is playing a defensive role as a forward well in the seniors. Every AFL player now in the reserves needs a run at the top level.

"We thought we could be better than we are": Buckley reacts to Pies' latest loss

There have been many ruck and rover combinations, great ones. Given the first chance to touch the ball hardly makes the ruckman an irrelevant position.

I don’t see this as a Grundy problem. Not having an insider’s knowledge of the personalities I can only look at it like a game day observer. What I see is a systematic breakdown. The proof in my pudding is the fact that opposition teams are able to take advantage of Grundy’s ability.

Once again, I think it’s a coaching problem.

The AFL media needs to change the narrative on Brodie Grundy

Agree Pete. Whoever has the responsibility to make the decision must make it now. Avoiding accountability by some marketing exercise will do great harm. It’s the future that counts now.

"We thought we could be better than we are": Buckley reacts to Pies' latest loss

thanks mate, never been keen on those croco-gators

Fractured Collingwood should start looking forward

Much ado about nothing.

The AFL has officially denied Port Adelaide's prison bars jersey request

Moving to Maggie Island in June, how’s the fishing up there?

Fractured Collingwood should start looking forward

You lose nothing by your mistake. You have expressed an opinion, and it may well be the opinion of the majority of members. I don’t know how that can be assessed, other than having an election that can reflect the true feelings of the members. If you are a statuary body then you should at least pay lip service to a constitution.
At the moment the club appears to be the play thing of the rich and powerful. At least John Wren had a genuine love of the club. Where he lived was by choice and circumstance.

An open letter to the Collingwood board and President Mark Korda

We have set a high standard in the last sixty years in home and away games. We have set a high standard in finals appearances. We have also set a good standard in GF appearances. When you consider all of this, we have only one TWO flags in that time. That’s what grates more than anything. Unfortunately, the last ten years have be DRAB. Just a poor way to play the game. And it aint gunna get better if Bucks hangs on.

Collingwood are an unstable rabble

Logical assessment. Need a similar, wider effort now from Wright.

Collingwood: The missing years

I’m glad to see you say that Pete. It would be great to watch them train. Please continue to give your assessment.

Is it time to stick a fork in the Pies?

I have found myself in agreement with you for some time now Les. Being an oldie I don’t have that many seasons to barrack. I value 1990 more than just about anything because I had to endure the winning so many games and the losing so many finals.

I first met Collingwood player, Jack Hickey, outside my Nana’s house in Vere Street Collingwood. So the dye runs deep.

You are right in what you have said and should be congratulated for consistency.

It takes a leader. We haven’t seen him/her yet.

Collingwood keep finding new ways to disenfranchise their fans

Couldn’t agree more mate. LSWTR

Six talking points from AFL Round 6

Wrote down some notes after the game finished on Sunday.

Grundy and Cameron outstanding around the ground. Their disposals are very impressive

Cameron BOG for Collingwood?

Pendlebury the only Collingwood player able to deliver ball inside 50 effectively

Centre bounce a real problem, SS very ineffective, Josh Thomas too small.

Sier has created a problem, a couple of years ago he stood under Grundy at ball up and bullocked his way.

Grundy gets no reward for winning rucks.

Moore must stay at CHB better a dominant presence where opposition kicks away from him than lack of opportunity in forward line.

Keep playing youngsters to see what they have got

Play Cox at FF and he is never to leave forward Fifty

Plugger Locket couldn’t get a kick as the Collingwood FF

It has completely fallen apart

Change coach as soon as possible
