Thanks for that Geoff
There was a fair bit of trepidation that Aus would adjust to the new pro era better than NZ, certainly had better models around them to leverage off than the then NZRU had. And I think in the early days that was probably true, not so much now and NZR is now dealing with some serious legacy structures.
As for the recent ‘look over here’ actions of RA, these people just demonstrate they don’t know their own market. The Cash for Crichton deal was never going to be well received, while the alleged future cash flows from the tension in the TV trade, are the very cash flow forecasts just rejected by a swathe of very clever PE people. Your supporters are no dummies RA. (by the way, if they cant do 50mil pa next time they are in real trouble)
Tone deaf.

The Wrap: Wallabies scrape a win but the team, and the code, have entered Chinese water torture territory

Theres an article in this for you JDK – direct comparison RA and Penguins of Madagascar.

Why News Corp and Foxtel are set to go after rugby broadcast rights despite Wallabies' World Cup flop

Did not miss Tony, all without hyperbole, it’s just not required.
Re being unlucky with Skelton and Tupou, both played nearly 70 mins v France and in the opening game, that’s taking a huge risk- esp given TTs recent history.
Big fan of the Penguins – great reference that, worth noting they only had 1 skipper.

Italy were never beating NZ and Portugal are not beating Aus.

Mamma Mia! All Blacks almost hit a ton against Italy to make World Cup statement as Smith scores hat-trick

If Ireland dish up these stats again, which they did against SA the ABs have a shot
6 lost lineouts
Only 40 pc gainline
Tackled at 84%
Only 75 rucks at ave speed of 4.7 secs
Those are poor
SA not good enough to put them away even with those numbers
This would give NZ a sniff

Mamma Mia! All Blacks almost hit a ton against Italy to make World Cup statement as Smith scores hat-trick

I think its this simple
Hes the perfect second man in, he doesnt make his tackles out in front of the line, not a great ruck cleaner, but give him a platform to play off and hes unstoppable, best in class.
And thats the trade off we make, even with him at 8.
You cant play like he does in the NZ 7 shirt.
Will be interesting next year when he is on sabbatical and you can guarantee Razor will go for a traditional 8
