The walkouts and bans aren’t directed at Rebecca.

The fans anger is mainly at who leaked the names/photos and why, when will they get a fair hearing and why doesn’t the FFA stand up for the 99.99% genuine innocent football fans and not pander to News Limited.

Rebecca’s “article” was just the spark that the fire needed and we thank her for that.

Could the negative media actually be a positive for football?

Daily Telegraph is becoming a tired old dinosaur, run by tired old men.
Rebecca Wilson is married to the old CEO of News Limited.

The mud doesn’t stick like it used to and credibility is falling to new lows.

Front page of that newspaper yesterday tried to shame some Sydney judges, who didn’t put away for life an “Islamic Terrorist”. Murdoch still thinks he’s the judge, jury and god of all, whether you are innocent or not.

Just sell the newspapers, boy.

Could the negative media actually be a positive for football?

= 10 seasons x 27 rounds x 5 games + 9 rounds x 5 games + 10 seasons x 7 finals matches = 1,215 matches in total.

= 198 bans per 1,215 games = 0.16 fan evictions per game

or about 1 fan eviction every 6.7 matches.

Could the negative media actually be a positive for football?

Sorry made a mistake.

It’s even better news than that.

That’s actually 0.7 fans per week, not game.

Forgot to multiply by 5 games per round + finals games.

The true figure is a mere 0.16 football fans evicted per match.

Yesss, yes, thank you Phil!

Football fans and Melbourne Victory leading the way

The Daily Telegraph yesterday front page shamed a couple of prominent judges for not locking up an “islamic terrorist” for life.

Seems Rupert Murdoch has no idea about the legal system or the rights of Australian citizens, whether they are guilty or not..

A-League's biggest clubs demand fan fix

Lets put that into perspective.

198 fans – lets assume they are all guilty for arguments sake – over 10 seasons and 9 rounds of the A-League
= 198 / 279 matches
= 0.7 fans per match

Now, lets compare that to:
Sydney rave party last weekend – 2 people died from drug overdoses and 98 arrests for serious drug offences.
Melbourne Cup meeting Flemington – 16 people arrested including assaulting police officers and 78 evicted for drunken and anti-social behaviour and running on to the track.
Adelaide 5 day cricket match – 117 fans ejected and arrested for drunken, anti-social behaviour and invading the pitch.

Zero tolerance from FFA – all who get evicted are banned – no exceptions.

Most got their banning notices in the mail, identified from grainy photographs, murky security videos and old club membership lists/photos.

Some claim they weren’t even at the game, not even in the country when it was alleged to have happened.

Lets put that in a more positive perspective.

Good comments Nordster.
Its not whether Wilson is right or not, the important thing is that it has given us the opportunity to analyse the criticism, the outrage and take the fans concerns seriously. The FFA can’t run and hide now.

Out of the ashes of the NSL came the much more successful A-League and out of this turmoil will come some pain, but also a better A-League and stronger football community. Steve Lowy certainly has a better idea of where he stands now.

Engaging with the fans worked very successfully in setting up the Wanderers. The fans comments cannot be ignored and the fans also need to understand that the FFA is between a rock and a hard place. We need to work together to get a better outcome for all concerned.

I thought the comments from the Victory CEO were excellent. We all have to lift our game. They are the benchmark.

Playing into the hands of NRL News Limited and all the other football haters.

Arguing amongst ourselves. Divide and conquer.
Refusing to go to football games and support your team. Like your club is responsible for this mess.

Rebecca is laughing at you all.

Don't take the anti-football brigade's bait - we're already winning!

Sydney rave party last weekend, 2 died following drug overdoses and 98 arrested for “serious drug offences”.

What are the real problems in our society that the media should be dealing with?

How bad are the FFA?

Not sure what point you are making AR, except maybe FFA bad – no matter what they do.

The FFA shared $3M with A-League clubs of profit when it sold Wanderers and $4M from the Asian Cup profits went to football clubs across Australia, so how can anyone tell how profitable the FFA is – they give away all their profits.

The "we" in football is threatening to collapse

AR
have you got the names and photos of those who “reported an FFA profit of $259,000”.

The FFA is a NON-PROFIT organisation, that’s why every year they report a break even situation.
The financial surpluses are re-invested in football.

The "we" in football is threatening to collapse

Fan ban, no worries.
The two teams who had fans walk out on them are equal top of the league.

NO FANS = WIN MORE GAMES.

The "we" in football is threatening to collapse

What a terrible week for football and all we can do is sit back and take it.

Nothing will happen, nothing will change, but the negative publicity has had an impact on the image of the game and the A-League will suffer.

FFA ought to focus less on appeasing non-football stakeholders

I don’t like Rebecca Wilson, but I don’t wish her any harm.

She has been writing insulting and controversial “anti-soccer” articles for Rupert since we qualified for the World Cup of 2006, the first time in 32 years.

This is not the first time she has received hate mail or death threats.

It’s playing out nicely for Rupert and his media and other sports investments and interests.

FFA ought to focus less on appeasing non-football stakeholders

The FFA is definitely falling asleep at the wheel again.

Long time football followers in this country are seeing golden opportunity after golden opportunity pass us by. As soon as we make any progress, we cow tow to the anti-football media brigade. Fark Them!

Attacking and focusing on the trouble makers is just playing into News Limited’s hand. What about being courageous and positive in a week when the football participation stats are going up and up. More kids than ever are playing football.

Maybe read the piece from Simon Hill or even Craig Foster instead for some material for your media announcements, instead of just condemning everyone.

Gallop is failing us and not stepping up to the plate.

The first major decision for new CEO Steven Lowy is to sack Gallop and put a real passionate football manager in charge, not some ex-NRL stooge who has no influence with News Limited or the rest of the media.

FFA ought to focus less on appeasing non-football stakeholders

And what about an answer to the question of what games you witnessed brawls in the stands and people being thrown to the concrete by police and being handcuffed.

Your comments are all too cosy in relation to your agenda.

Rebecca Wilson is right in a very wrong way

The rule of common law and habeas corpus applies to every square inch of this wonderful country.

If the FFA does not look after the paying customer, including those wrongly accused, then customers stop turning up to these “private premises” and the A-League dies, which is exactly what Rebecca Wilson, Alan Jones and Rupert Murdoch want.

Its meant to be divisive and break up the league.

The FFA should be sticking up for the 99.9% of football fans AND THEIR FAMILIES, who are doing the right thing every week and not pander to the “Soccer Hooligan Violence” nonsense that the anti-soccer brigade keep dishing out at us.

I am not a “soccer hooligan” and neither are my 10 year old and 13 year old children who regularly go to A-League games and are registered football players, like myself.

David Gallop makes statement regarding leaked A-League list

We all want thugs removed from our society, whether its at a pub or at an AFL game.

What if they are innocent or want to give their side of the story.
The FFA has no right of reply and no appeals process.

Half the people identified deny the accusations.

David Gallop makes statement regarding leaked A-League list

Crowd violence and arrests at A-League football matches have actually gone down in the last 5 years, while arrests in other codes and sporting events like the Melbourne cup are actually going up.

Football must take opportunities and reduce own goals

The FFA is Complicit and lacking courage.

The Silence is Deafening and Self Incriminating.

The way it treats paying fans is a disgrace – guilty until proven innocent and no appeal – this is Fascist Behaviour.

If someone pointed out the bad behaviour of AFL fans, then the AFL CEO, Gillon McLachlan would be all over it and defend the game and the fans to the death.

Looks to me like the FFA was in on the plan to shame people. Lost trust and faith in David Gallop and the way the FFA are running the A-League.

Football fans continue quest to be heard

Nick,
have you ever been to an A-League game and witnessed the “violence in the stands”.
Have you ever been to a Sydney derby A-League game?

Be honest.
From your profile you look like you follow rugby and watch the EPL occasionally on TV.

Rebecca Wilson is right in a very wrong way
