Yes.. Kenya is a Soccer nation.
But rugby has a footprint there. They didnt start making Rugby compulsory in Secondary school recently for nothing you know.
In these few short years they already have 40K+ registered players… This will rise in the future.. by a lot.
Aussie Rules included in Africa Games
“rugby is mainly for the wealthy whites, just in South Africa. It is perceived to be very Afrikaaner(the white Dutch-German colonists)”
I take it you dont know about Kenya and Madagascar being very keen on Rugby nowadays? Mainly thanks to 7s. Zimbabwe and Uganda also have healthy numbers playing the Game due to 7s introduction.
And in South Africa there are more and more non-whites playing the game too. There are now 600K+ registered rugby players in South Africa nowadays and quite alot are young colored saffas.
Aussie Rules included in Africa Games
If RL is included in the CWG, which form of the game would they play? Because just like Rugby.. the 13 a side League game would be a bit too much since the CWG lasts only 10 days. So most likely it will be the 9 a side version.
Hopefully the Gold Coast gets the Nod to host the CWGs… Which is one of the reasons i think the Gold Coast got the nod to host the IRB 7s tournament starting at the end of this year.

😆 You mean this statement from the report?
“Fewer than one million people watched the match in all of the International Rugby Board’s 110 other member nations, including Japan, Argentina, Italy, Canada, the United States and Samoa.”
Well its quite Hard for Samoa to get 1 million people watching the RWC final when our population is only 180K.
As for those other nations mentioned.. NONE of them are nations which received the 2007 RWC final FREE TO AIR.
However, expect the figure to increase this year with NBC going to show the RWC final FTA for the first time in USA.
Ashton on moving from league to union
“The Herald report also states that Samoa is not a die-hard Rugby Union area”
Really? I have to read this and have a laugh.
Also Daniel that ‘Report’ that they are using was from 2008… which stated among other things.
“The IRB has failed in getting Olympic Status for Rugby 7s!”
😕 lol. So whats happening in Rio 2016?
Ashton on moving from league to union
Cmon KOG. Even some of the AP teams are getting poor crowds… Leeds (even thou they are playing in the North) have had some Sub 5K crowds as well… Along with Newcastle Falcons, Sale and Wasps.
However, found some news on the RFU championship (England 2nd Division) Semifinals last weekend.
Worchester defeated Bedford in front of 6,539
Also heard that the Cornish Pirates defeated London Welsh in the Other Semi..
So its a Final between Worchester and the Pirates. Winner to be promoted to the AP.. And most likely Leeds from the AP relegated to the RFU championship next season.

Matt, what are you talking about?
There are 1 million players in England. They submitted the report to Sports England. Deal with it.
As for League in Australia. At the moment they have 450K+ at last count.
37 or 38 million watched the RWC final in 2007. Whats your point?

Really?
Jeez.. Why havent they gotten the IC up and running yet?
AFL TV deal makes no difference up north
Cheers Dopey for the Comments.
Yes.. More money has to be used strategically.
Pumping more and more Money into the PI nations.. Well helpful for us… Honestly, our PI populations are too small to generate ANY sort of profit….Rather that money be given to Unions that show real good potential.. Such as Georgia, USA and perhaps Russia in the long run.

Any Word on the NRL and A-league TV Deals yet?
AFL TV deal makes no difference up north
If this is True..
Amazing. Good on AFL with good business thinking.
1 Billion…WOW.
New AFL TV rights deal finalised
Thanks NF.. But yes, i seem to have gotten a bit too defensive. But yes CONSUR Has shown growth.. As have FIRA and NACRA regions..
There are a further 3 parts which will Cover CAR (Africa) , ARFU (Asia) and finally FORU (Oceania.). Thats where things will show that not all regions have shown growth.
IRB Report 2010: CONSUR - South America: Part III
Cheers Oikee. Never thought i would ever see the Reds get those kinda Crowds again. BUT.. how long will it last is the question.
What the NRL needs to do to fight back
Sorry Bush.
But yes.. This thread is about the 2009 to 2010 years.
They have all shown Growth in CONSUR except for Venezuela.
The end. 🙂
IRB Report 2010: CONSUR - South America: Part III
Sorry Tristan. But i have already proven that when compared to 2009, CONSUR has shown growth.
Again, Apologies, i will try and keep this on topic.
IRB Report 2010: CONSUR - South America: Part III
Argentina already has over 100K players. Its already popular contrary to your widely disproved belief.
IRB Report 2010: CONSUR - South America: Part III
Then how on earth are you saying that Rugby playing numbers have not grown from 1995?
Ok 1995.. Lets see.
Italy – Around 8k.
2010 – 66K.
You do the math.. Then continue to find a way to criticise..
IRB Report 2010: CONSUR - South America: Part III
Honestly.. How much more can they grow the game in Samoa, Tonga, Fiji? We are all Rugby Nations with Small Populations.. I would rather grow in other Countries.
IRB Report 2010: CONSUR - South America: Part III
Now lets talk Italy
In 2006 Italy had…45,376 players.
2010 – 66,176
A 46% Increase!!
Compare to the year 2000 where they had approximately 18K.
But still a failure.
IRB Report 2010: CONSUR - South America: Part III
So 5000 is pretty good for a new team ey?
IRB Report 2010: CONSUR - South America: Part III
Well thats the thing.. Its a New Team.. What sort of support were you expecting in Italy for a New Team?
Okay., how about comparing the crowds from 1995 for Italy club matches to now?
Alot of Italian Posters will tell you that the growth in crowds and popularity for Rugby is phenomenal. CONSIDERING ITS BEEN PRO ONLY 16 YEARS!
What type of support were you expecting in 1 year.. 50’000!
IRB Report 2010: CONSUR - South America: Part III
What were Treviso and Aironi Averages in 1994-1995?
Both less then 5000.. Pretty good for a Team thats only been Pro for a few years.. Oh are you trying to compare them to Man Utd? 😆
