A-League grand finalists set to be dismantled
I love this. Lyon was at the Saints for five years, couldn’t secure a long-term deal and had a clause in the contract whereby either party could opt out on the final year.. Chris Scott had just replaced Bomber and won the flag. Suddenly replacing experienced coaches with new coaches was all the rage. Buckley for Malthouse, McCartney for Eade. Clarkson for Craig.
Coming to the conclusion that “Lyon doesn’t have it in his DNA to stay at one club for too long” is bizzare.
If Freo wins the flag then bring Ross the boss to the Blues
Is that serious Batou?

Dundee ready to swoop after Tinkler's messy break-up with Jets
The A-league is obviously facing a lot of challenges at the moment. Brisbane, Newcastle, Perth and CCM are in a bit of strife. Wellington may not exist after next year. On the other hand the two Sydney and two Melbourne clubs are flying. To me this has demonstrated the need to have equalisation measures in place such as a salary cap.
It will be very interesting to see how things pan out over the off-season.

AR if every 6th or 7th post you make refers to the AFL. That would mean that 83-85% you are not referring to AFL.
Not a bad strike rate.
UPDATE: Nathan Tinkler stripped of Newcastle Jets' A-League licence
Get your hand off it Horto.
Berisha left because Victory paid him more. Simple as that.
Berisha does the hardest job better than anyone
Reading between the lines, I am starting to get the feeling you two don’t like each other much.

He wouldn’t get a game for Freo Cam. Not many Eagles would to be frank.
What to make of the West Coast Eagles?
Think about it this way. These tabs are made up of some of the biggest soccer fans in Australia but how many of you watched the cup finals of any of the other Asian leagues.
I can’t imagine any more than 100,000 internationals watched the A-league.

I was going to say something about that figure but usually get accused by certain people of being anti-football when I mention T.V ratings.
The most comprehensive look at television viewers came from Initiative Sports Futures back in 2006. I have attached a link:

Your right Fuss, I was getting a bit ahead of myself. I should have said Victory didn’t beat us in four attempts. My mistake.

“what he brings to the table more than compensates for that”
True, if you measure his worth by using football statistics he is no good, if you measure his worth by other metrics such as how much merchandise he sells then he is a valued player.
What to make of the West Coast Eagles?
Bondy,
I think Victory fans were annoyed as it was the fourth time we had beaten them (unfairly as it turned out).

Amazing. People still think like this.
Over the last decade we have seen the importance of a winning culture. We have seen how much more young players develop when they are with a winning side . We have seen teams who went out their way to bottom out (Carlton and Melbourne) struggling for years to come. We have seen the best player in the comp drafted at number 20 and the past Brownlow Medal winners drafted at:
2014) 31 (Rookie draft)
2013) 40
2012) 40
2011) 58
2010)40
2009) 1
2008)3
2007) 43
The fact that an “expert” could conclude that it is better to get a pick 4 places higher than it is to give a bunch of players finals experience playing on the biggest stage is staggering.
To further my point, lets look at picks 12 vs pick 8 over the last few years, assuming it takes 2 or 3 years to know whether a player will make it.
2005
Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls (pick 8), Nathan Jones (pick 12)
2006
Ben Reid (pick 8), James Frawley (pick 12)
2007
Lachie Henderson (pick 8), Cyril Rioli (pick 12)
2008
Ty Vickory (8) Lewis Johnston (12)
2009
John Butcher (8) Kane Lucas (12)
2010
Dyson Hepell (8) Lucas Cook (12)
2011
Billy Longer (8) Sam Doherty (12)
What to make of the West Coast Eagles?
1) I never expected it would get reported to the same extent as the NRL incident. Never said that, just stated the fact that it didn’t.
2) Paper planes – not sure of the relevance.
3) Just going by my own personal experiences, I have found Richmond fans to be the worst in Melbourne for crowd behaviour

Our game plan has changed very little, we are just implementing it better and have a stronger squad at the moment than previous years.

I didn’t mention anything about them being full bottles.
FFA celebrates record audience for Grand Final
In the Glory v Victory game, an offside wasn’t paid to Keogh and Victory fans started pelting the assistant referee with plastic bottles. It didn’t get reported anywhere near a similar NRL incident this year but was very ugly to watch.
The bottles weren’t coming from the kids in the active areas but from an area full of families. .

Yeah very poor effort by Victory fans. I could be wrong but I can’t remember that happening in other grand finals.

Yeah amazing player. Continually performs in the big games.
Besart Berisha thrilled with grand final goal
Hi Horto,
My point is that we are at a crucial point in the history of the A-league where a handful of the bigger clubs are flying and the smaller clubs are struggling. Now is not the time to loosen the cap or fret about Sydney or Melbourne not being able to retain players. We really need to ensure that we have a sustainable and competitive league.
