Roar editors had him at 47 in their top 50 (one at 26 and another at 38)

Footy Fix: The Dees have a massive Christian Petracca problem - there's only one of him

If you put him in most other sides and he would be kicking 20 goals a year at most.

Yeah, I don’t thin we will see Cerra again for a month – will want to be extra cautious.

Saad coming in will really help our rebound – Cowan looks like he will be a good player but he is not Saad.

Is there a more overrated forward than Bailey Fritsch?

Averaging 3.3 marks a game and 8.4 disposals (just 3.6 contested) – straight kicking and great work from team mates ahead of the ball is all he has.

Quarter and a half – 5 minutes to go in the third and Carlton were up by 35 points.
” It was 8.9 to 4.3 after halftime, the floodgates were opened by the final siren.” 3 of those 8 came in the last 6 minutes of the game.

Footy Fix: The Dees have a massive Christian Petracca problem - there's only one of him

During the Dees comeback in the second half the umpiring ran at 1-9 Melbourne from half time to about 3/4 of the way through the last – if you are going to claim umpiring assistance then you have to look at all the umpiring.

Dees inaccuracy – true but the Blues kicked 15.15 (including 2.8 in the first) against the Cats to lose by 13 and 14.14 to 16.4 to lose against the Crows by 2 – do we have to adjust the Blues up for those?

“Next week (Swans at the SCG) will be a proper indication.” Unless we win. The Giants game was supposed to give us a better indication, last nights game was supposed to give us a better indication but as soon as we win they didn’t count.

The Pies got through by the skin of their teeth for 2 years and got praised each week – even this year the could easily have lost to Hawthorn, Essendon & Carlton – but they are still rated as premiership fancies with a 4-1-3 record.

Footy Fix: The Dees have a massive Christian Petracca problem - there's only one of him

First 6 goals from 6 different players and only one from Curnow and McKay combined was a great result

I must say I am really getting a good laugh out of the “Carlton really lost” and “Carlton are yet to prove they are a serious contender” media narrative out of this game – 3-1 against other top 8 sides, biggest losing margin of just 13 points (against the 7-1 Cats), 1 of 4 clubs to kick over 75 points against the Dees (despite kicking just 7 in the last) and still its “only getting scrappy wins”.
Blues still have a lot of improvement to do but at 6-3 with 6 games against either current top 4 sides or last years grand finalists we are in a good spot.
Also for anyone pointing to Kemp’s dodgy free kick, perhaps if the Blues got a free for Petracca throwing Newman to the ground in the last the might have won by more?
PS – the difference between Lewis Young and Mitch McGovern on Carlton’s team was massively evident last night – Weitering can trust McGovern a lot more and be more aggressive with his positioning and McGivern thinks faster and uses the ball better so his intercepts are much more damaging

Footy Fix: The Dees have a massive Christian Petracca problem - there's only one of him

The slippery conditions helped the Dees because the Blues couldn’t take aggressive kicking options and made it difficult to put together a chain of handball to run through the Dees zone.

I always get nervous when you get on the BLues.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions, Round 9: Has Bevo just arrived at the last chance saloon?

Been interesting to see this week that the Blues are struggling so much – Curnow (the leagues leading goal kicker, who has had 6 more scoring shots than anyone in the league and only has 3 of the top 23 goal kickers taking more marks) is wrestling too much, the Blues midfield (currently number 1 n the league for contested possessions 5 a game ahead of the next best side, number 1 side in centre clearance, 5th in total clearances 2.1 per game behind the league leading lions and number 3 in the league for tackles) has lost its brutal edge and the forward line is too tall with the ball rebounding out too fast (despite the Blues leading the league in inside 50 tackles). Looks like a long season ahead!!
P.S. – forgot to mention how terribly out of form Weitering is, despite keeping Mihochek and Hawkins Goalless
Will be an interesting game tonight – I like the Blues “ins” – all players who will take the game on and Martin provides that missing class inside 50 – but the pivotal player to the Blues IMO will be De Koning – since Pittonet game back in against the Crows 4 weeks ago TDK has kicked 5.5 (all in the last 3 weeks) and had 3 goal assists – with May going to Curnow if TDK can hit the scoreboard early he might force Lever to become more accountable and allow McKay and Curnow to get more space and 1 on 1 contests.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions, Round 9: Has Bevo just arrived at the last chance saloon?

Just saw Lloyd and Matthews have been knocking Curnow for wrestling too much – given he has kicked more goals than anyone else in the league (25 – 1 ahead of Hogan), had more scoring shots (40 – 6 ahead of Hogan and Waterman) and only 3 of the top 23 goals kickers (McKay 63, Waterman 59 & Cameron 57) have taken more than his 50 marks for the year – you do have to ask if he is being held to a too high a standard.

My wife & I had the kids in between and had to text each other from just a couple of seats away,

AFL News: Collingwood calls for AFL to introduce premiership rings, Prestia eyes return for Tigers

Yeah – I think you are right on the AFL players attitudes – we saw it in the ridiculous fashion parade before AFLX.

On the youth market – what the AFL has never got is that you get the youth market by getting parents to take their kids along. I have very fond memories of going to watch the Blues and getting to the game early enough to watch the end of the U19’s, then watching the reserves and the seniors with only the “footy record” and family conversation (plus if we were at Princes Park the peanut man and the raffle) to “entertain” us outside of the actual football – but you learned to appreciate those things, enjoy the slow build up, learn about how the game works through discussion.

The constant bombardment of music at the Geelong Carlton game was just ridiculous – particularly the irish jig every time Touhy kicked a goal plus a half time dance comp – I mean I could have got behind it if it was “come ye black and tans” or “men behind the wire” – but this was dross.

I really wonder how long it will take before Australian sport gets over this “they do it in America so it must be better” attitude.

AFL is a much better product than anything the US has to offer and we don’t need the flash Harry nonsense the US loves to decorate its sporting events with.

And while we are at it can we get rid of all the constant music blasting, dance competitions, sing alongs and every other noise making BS that is bombarded at live attendees these days so people can have an actual conversation pre-game and in the breaks – which is generally about the actual game

The lack of reward for the tackler is what gets me, the Blues lay the most inside 50 tackles by a considerable margin but it means nothing

Six Points: Bevo's Bulldogs reach breaking point, dangerous tackle loophole must be closed, and 2024's worst coach-killer

Put Martin in for Fantasia and Motlop for Durdin and it will look better balanced

We aren’t scheduled to play again here and now, that’s what is wrong with that

Footy Fix: Bad blunders, unsung heroes and THAT Nick Daicos moment - the 232-second story of another Pies-Blues classic

You would think the top 4 are safe but Melbourne are flaky and the Giants have played just 2 of the current top 8, for 2 losses both more than 3 goals.

Out of the 4 teams you list I would like to think you could trust Carlton the most – and they probably have the biggest upside in terms of players to come back.

Six Points: Bevo's Bulldogs reach breaking point, dangerous tackle loophole must be closed, and 2024's worst coach-killer

“The difference in class to the teams the Blues have lost to is telling.” Really – lost by 4 (14.14 – 16.4) to the Crows, 13 (15.15 to 18.10) to the Cats and 6 (12.7 to 12.13) to the Pies and that is a “telling” gap in class?

Pies fans are carrying on like they won by 10 goals instead of coming within a Harry McKay decision from losing.

We will see how the class gap shows later in the year.

Brisbane are a chance but are 2 games behind and I would assume they have a tough draw given they finished runners up.

I am not disputing 7 is bad, or that fox is better, but this phenomenon didn’t just happen 2 weeks ago.

Why suddenly do we have 2 of just 12 “points” from 18 games – a lot of which have had top teams playing each other or significant upsets – dedicated to saying “channel 7 commentary is bad” – we don’t have a point saying the sky is Blue?

Six Points: Bevo's Bulldogs reach breaking point, dangerous tackle loophole must be closed, and 2024's worst coach-killer

Lachie Fogarty is still equal 12 for tackles inside 50 despite only playing in 4 games so he has been missed but McKay and Durdin have both laid 13, just 2 behind the leader and the Blues are still the leading inside 50 tackling team in the comp – 15.6 to the Power 13.8 a game.

They have slid down to 12th on the intercepts (I think they were up in the top 2 or 3 in the first month) with 66.9 per game compared to the Cats 74.6 which I am not sure whether that is down to not having the cattle or strategy.

Six Points: Bevo's Bulldogs reach breaking point, dangerous tackle loophole must be closed, and 2024's worst coach-killer

I wasn’t a real fan of it, but I think it is getting better. TDK has kicked 4.5 in the last 3 weeks averaging close to 16 possessions – if he can straighten up his kicking it can work.

Six Points: Bevo's Bulldogs reach breaking point, dangerous tackle loophole must be closed, and 2024's worst coach-killer

We won the contested possession and the clearances in that game and were 16 points up with less than 5 minutes to play. Throw in kicking 14.14 to 16.4 and we should have won that game. But we didn’t.

Don’t think it will kill our season and if the Crows claim a couple more scalps it will help but it certainly didn’t help it.
