Lol, Smith out, undone by some pace, Smith is one of those guys who seems to always play better at the highest level.

That said, but out batsmen should have been watching the Queensland innings, flashes this early were always going to be foolish.

Hmm, Warner and Smith in for NSW at the moment, and Neser is immediately round the wicket at him, already played and missed at a couple, if he gets knocked over ala Broad in Aussie conditions we should start sending up alarm bells.

TBH the pitch IS such an absolute road it has hard to qualify anything about the batsmen, who knows how good/bad the batsmen are when I reckon I could get a century on that.

Pucovski is struggling a little for timing, but not edging anything, just hitting fielders, looks calm and assured, really looking like a test batsman. Just not throwing his arm around like maddinson (which he has a right to do at his score)

No real soft dismissals, as I say further up, really feels this wicket is quite quick, edges and LBW’s usually due to pace, the bowling has been really good, excellent consistency to keep them from scoring. Lab’s innings was mostly just having a more solid defence than the rest, he was eventually brought undone by LBW too, but he was patient and calm as he needed to be.

Watching the WA game, I have a really irrational dislike of Stoinis now, my heart just wants him to fail (not even sure what he has done!), gut feelings are so stupid.

Its interesting that on paper I would rate the Queensland top order (down to 4) as the best of the comp, didn’t feel like that today.

Feels like sometimes. but no, cricket network.

And Bulls are COMPLETELY falling apart now, shows that Labs was really the only one halting the slide.

Personally I rate Lab’s innings for sure, but i have an admitted bias towards Labs and against Harris 😁

Eh it worries me to a point, but I would take consistency of putting a price on your wicket for now, todays knock shouldn’t be dismissed because it wasn’t 100, he dug in unlike any of the rest of the batsmen.

Ok so Bulls falling apart now, from what I can tell (image on CN is pretty crappy) it seems this pitch is really quick. Lots of LBW’s on fairly straight deliveries indicates this, lots of people really hurried along, think we will get some NSW batting late on.

Even Copeland seems quick on this.

And now he is out, looked the best batsmen today for sure, LBAW looked pretty good, maaaybe legside.

As Jeff said above though, seems a smart cricketer. Would like to see him go on to make a hundred in these shield games though, for his sake, his county cricket proved he is quite capable of it.

Had to tough it out a long time today.

Queensland have been completely bogged down again…

Yeah, the vic game was so boring I switched it to the WACA, definitely some swing and seam, looks like the hardest conditions of the 3 games.

I don’t know if that’s impressive or depressing?

Hmm, I reckon NSW will be batting later today, this bowling looks like it will be too good for there middle-lower order.

There goes Renshaw, and excellent slips catch early after resumption from lunch, out of all the reasonably possible openers to push for contention, Renshaw was the one that would need some truely impressive scores to force his way in.

2 screens is my limit, can only follow the scorecard for that one, first properly early innings wicket over the 3 games.

Yup, poor look, the attack has been toothless, but this pitch is the flattest I have ever watched.

It’s a little small, but my god what a road, and what a poor bowling performance.

It’s open season as the scramble for top-order runs begins

Been watching both so far, my multitasking is being stressed.

The Vic v SA wicket looks flat flat flat… makes it hard to make fair judgements on the bowling but it has looked pretty eh, no real threat and the plans look pretty uninspired. Not to take away from Harris and Maddison who have both batted well, but a big score here should be given its proper place for difficulty.

The Gabba wicket has more in it, looks faster and there is some (some) movement, but it still looks a good batting wicket. It’s the NSW bowling that looks several tiers better than Sa’s at the moment, accurate and consistent (maybe not Starc) and genuinely producing threats and really keeping it tight. However burns and especially Renshaw got really bogged down and failed to score for something like 8 overs, not a good look. The two LBW’s were pretty conventional, burns missing a low full toss was maybe unlucky, but he was trying to play across the line poorly. Renshaw is still in and labs has already caught his score, he started very slow too, but has actually played a few shots now when the ball is there.

Pretty interesting start for the openers trying to get a place in the tests, feel a bit for Burns and Renshaw playing against a better attack and livelier wicket while Marcus gets to pummel limp bowling on the biggest road.

The reliance on smith isn’t new, but with Warner and Khawaja both being continued non-performers I would say this is the worst it’s been.
At the moment a legitimate argument could be made that if you’re pesky hand replace him say… with Shaun Marsh, I would hazard that we have one of if not the worst batting lineups intest cricket at the moment.

Numbers don't lie: Measuring the dominance of Steve Smith's Ashes

Oh no! There happens to be several players to watch from a non-NSW team, the horror….

Seriously there are a lot of players to watch and the fact that he happened to select 3 from WA means literally nothing.

Five players to watch in the Sheffield Shield

I don’t doubt Khawaja has more talent and shots than Labuschagne, I feel that’s clear too everyone, and I agree Marnus still has a few ugly shots, though I think you are stretching the “good fortune” card a bit, one of his innings definitely had fortune but the rest had no more than a standard batsmen’s innings. What I do believe is Labuschagne looks to have more drive to learn from his mistakes and a better temperament to survive as required through a test innings. I could be wrong of course, and he has yet to convert an innings into a big one which would easy my mind, but I look at those parts of his performance and have hope. Exactly what I wish Khawaja had more of, his talent (class is an interesting word here maybe it applies) is no in doubt, it misses the point to talk it up though.

Usman Khawaja's back-to-back tons send a message to Test selectors

Take easy catches, he is one of those freaks in the field that seem to always seems to take the hard ones, but drops the occasional sitter, like today. Even in the field he is an utter weirdo.
