The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.

Helps that Bellamy has had the greatest ever RL IQ out on the field every week directing the troops, not to mention, 2 other players for most of that time in Cronk and Slater who would be close to all time top 10 for RL IQ!

The Broncos have no rugby league IQ

I don’t think you can read too much into Siebold/Broncos 2019. It seems the plan was always for a transition/foundation for the next couple of seasons with a reduced emphasis on immediate results, a bit of a free pass from the board if you like. There was also no consistency in the halves where generally ‘footy iq’ comes from and those that rotated through there had little experience in those positions.

Depends what was in it for him, big enough brown paper bag and who knows?

New NRL ad is 'simply the best'

There was plenty of overt (hetero)sexuality ‘pushed onto’ us in the original ‘simply the best’ ad!

New NRL ad is 'simply the best'

Agree. Being a Tim Gore article I thought we might have seen some sort of statistical basis for the assertion that Sticky is an “awesome” coach. On cursory analysis this seems not to be the case. His winning percentage is only 46% which does not compare very favourably to his peers that are the benchmarks of “awesomeness”, such as Bellamy(68), Bennett(62) and Robinson(64).

Haters take note: Ricky Stuart is an indisputably awesome coach

Accept your point about context but still don’t consider it a howler to call a 100% incorrect call a “howler”. If Vunivalu had touched the line by the same amount he missed it and had then gone on to score un-reviewed it would be called more than that!

I am warming to the suggestion that video ref use could be expanded in a limited capacity. It has largely eliminated the “shockers” from try scoring situations, which was obviously it’s main objective, and given us all plenty to argue about the rest of the time! It is already being manipulated by the on-field refs when they call “no try” purely to have a look at dead ball, knock ons or other various infringements that they had already let go. If the video ref only had until play resumed to make a call it would not affect the flow of the game and also would not allow them to look at something 10 times in super slow-mo, but would easily catch obvious wrong calls such as the Vunivalu one.

Yes, ten minutes in the sin-bin completely changes a football game. That’s the point!

For what it’s worth, I have no problem with the Vunivalu decision being described as a “howler”.
Unlike the other examples, whereby you have people arguing for both sides, I am yet to see anyone arguing that he did actually touch the sideline ( except the touchy standing 2 metres away. )

Yes, ten minutes in the sin-bin completely changes a football game. That’s the point!

Except Cameron Smith’s sin binning didn’t “completely change the game. ”

Good luck with predictions this weekend! The outsiders had beaten the favorites at last start in all the 4 games and 2 out of the 3 results so far seem to show that this was no fluke.

“The bunker virtually decided that game” – you are joking right?

Five talking points from Manly Sea Eagles vs Cronulla Sharks NRL elimination final

The Sharks need anyone who can kick goals!

The players each finals bound side can’t win without

I do like the smarts of the “S” team and with Cam Smith you will have the refs with you as well.
Congrats on an epic series!

Rugby league history: The all-time great alphabet teams – Who takes out the Alphabet Cup?

I am aware of that but the passer has to have their own considerable forward momentum for that to occur and Johnson was pretty much running laterally. None of the Fox commentators had an issue with the call.

Fifita gets it wrong, but he's not the first or last

Still a really dumb play from an experienced player and supposed leader that cost his team the game.
BTW, simple physics means that Johnson’s pass that landed a good 2 meters ahead of where he threw it from could not have left his hands backwards.

Eight talking points from NRL Round 18

Well it took the video ref about a 1000 replays to somehow see that. Was called on field try and no clear evidence to overturn.

Five talking points from State of Origin Game 1

Looks like a penalty try. Smells like a penalty try.

Queensland denied a penalty try after controversial review

I didn’t see any separation indicating a knock on, looked like a try to me as the on field ref said.

State of Origin 1 final score and result: Queensland claim Game 1 win at Suncorp Stadium

Napa try by on field ref, can’t see how video ref over-ruled it??. Penalty try 50/50 but doesn’t have to be “certain”, just in the referees opinion a try would likely have been scored.

Five talking points from State of Origin Game 1

That’s a send off every day of the week. Haven’t seen the hit on Alvaro but even if that was somehow missed you can’t let this sort of hit stay in the game. Good luck Gutho telling the ref “you can’t do that. “

Eels ask for NRL consistency over sin bin

I have a feeling that the Broncos signed Seibold with an eye to a premiership window from 2020 onwards, hence clearing out the older players and looking to bring a predominately youthful group on together. He won’t be under any pressure until at least 2021. This doesn’t seem a common strategy in the NRL although teams in the AFL are much more transparent with such an approach.
Conversely South’s, as others have mentioned, are in their window with an aging roster and are happy to have Bennett with proven results in this situation and are less concerned what happens over the few years after that.
