I'm an all around sports enthusiast. My most memorable sporting moment was seeing the Socceroos qualify for the World Cup and then watching them play in Germany.

Ah! I didn’t realise this was on SBS. I started tracking it when he was at 9-4-7 early in the third and thought he was a chance. How was his humility in the post-match interview? Said it was pretty cool or something like that. Haha!
NBA in awe of Josh Giddey as Aussie star sets triple-double record
Phenomenal effort from Josh! So humble in his approach. The ceiling is very high for this kid and he’s climbing quickly towards it.
NBA in awe of Josh Giddey as Aussie star sets triple-double record
Good trait to have if they go abroad for teams that like to play out from the back. Good luck to the kid!
Reds rout Phoenix for their first win of the season
Agree, didn’t have a heap to do but looked calm, particularly with the ball at his feet. Far too early to tell if he’ll make it but didn’t do himself any harm.
Reds rout Phoenix for their first win of the season
No, they won’t sit on their hands, but who do they go for? Surely the type of player they want longer term isn’t the same player that gets them out of a relegation dogfight. I’ve heard a rumour of Coutinhou. Good option if they survive this season but he’s not a scrapper that you need now. Perhaps some 6-month loans with player options to extend could be worth it.
Transfer rumours: The biggest names on the market
January is always a funny window. Not many big moves tend to be made so I wouldn’t be shocked if Haaland and Mbappe stay and move in the European summer but no doubt some smaller players will move. Having a World Cup at the end of this year may see more moves than usual antagonised by players looking for all important game time to make those World Cup squads.
Transfer rumours: The biggest names on the market
Thanks for the comment AMD.
Arsenal is fascinating to me. I grew up watching them dominate in the 90’s and would love to see them challenge again. Still unsure whether Arteta is the man to get them there but a lot of young talent coming through. Need to part ways with Aubameyang too, the way they picked up relatively unknown players like Henry and Van Persie and made them genuine stars is surely something they would like to replicate going forward.
I just can’t see Man City dropping many points on the run in, Liverpool and Chelsea don’t have the depth that City have to manage injuries, suspensions etc.
I think the next few years in La Liga will be very interesting to see how Real Madrid and Barcelona rebound given their restrictions. Any league benefits from a shake up. See Leicester and Real Sociedad.
Champions crowned, but what else does the second half of the EPL season have in store?
Obviously hard with current postponements but I really feel the a-leagues could learn something from the BBL. Most sports fans at this time of year will watch anything to get their fix and having at least one BBL game in every night means that’s what they will watch. While the ratings aren’t there at the moment, pulling the plug now will never allow a new audience to be attracted. Playing games more regularly through this time also helps spread the fixtures over 7 days rather than just 3.
Scheduling two A-League Men’s fixtures at the same time is simply ridiculous
Both amazing but Fraser-McGurk for me.
MUST WATCH: 'Unbelievable!' Is this utter BBL STUNNER better than Fraser-McGurk's?
Australia’s bowling depth has been showcased in this series but still question marks over the batters. The fact that a lot of options have been tested without nailing down their spots means there is little pressure on any of the top 5 if their form drops. There’s also a lot to do with the conditions. Completely different in England with the Duke ball.
Could Australia’s A team beat this English rabble in a Test?
In the seven match unbeaten run Kewell has played 349 minutes while Engelaar has played 379. But I take your point and Kewell’s influence on the squad can not just be measured purely in minutes played as the players lift whenever he is around the group.
Heart will be made to earn their finals spot
I would ordinarily not be picking either North or Og but with Sainsbury and Williams going down and Neill’s lack of game time we are quite stretched at center half. If we’re picking 4 centre halfs who would they be?
Ange has A-League players in sights
At the start of the season there were so many candidates for the Socceroos WC squad from the HAL. The likes of Troisi, Juric and to a lesser extent Duke had cracking starts to the season but they have fallen away due to injury, suspension and form. Unless they pick up their form come the end of the season they won’t be going to Brazil. Ange is not the type to pick players on reputation, he’ll only be looking at form when he compiles his squad.
Rogic and Milligan are definitely going while McKay, Og, North, Taggart and Mooy are an outside chance.
Ange has A-League players in sights
They didn’t seem to have a problem sacking Littbarski after their championship in season 1, albeit under different circumstances. If history is anything to go by unless they’re contractually obliged they’ll just make a decision and restart like they do every season.
What will Sydney FC do if they make the finals?
If Tomic only cared about what the Australian public thought of him he would’ve stayed out there last night and further injured himself. If he’s looking to preserve his body, get the most out of this year and deliver on his promised of a top 20 world ranking (which as I recall was top 10 last year) he was right to retire last night.
As for his heart and how bad his injury was and felt that’s something that only he will know. It’s no good being told you’re the best, the rankings don’t lie and no amount of excuses will change that.
If he wants to be near the top of men’s tennis he’s got a lot of work ahead of him.
I no longer know how to support Tomic
“but you can bet Sydney FC and its billionaire owner David Traktovenko will have something to say about that.”
The only reason Central Coast are even looking into the potential of North Sydney is because they see an opportunity that Sydney FC haven’t explored. Sydney FC have nothing to complain about, they’ve had nine years to create a fan base and they have a huge catchment area already. Before the Wanderers they had the run of every area in NSW outside the Central Coast/Hunter area.
I’m not sure if they still do it but I know that a few years ago the Mariners were visiting areas such as Wollongong and Canberra to expand their fan base becasue they realise that there is only so much they can draw from Central Coast. I don’t think they will relocate but even a couple of games a season can’t hurt. If they can draw more fans from North Sydney to make the short drive to Blue Tongue then all the better for them.
If Sydney FC let the Mariners bully them and steal fans from North Sydney I guess their product isn’t as great as it looks. They should welcome the challenge. The A-League was set up as one team per city league but that was to help clubs build. Those days are gone. Back your product, back your brand, back your club and go and get fans to buy in to what you’re selling.
Are the Mariners moving to North Sydney?
Nice work DG.
He has to take every opportunity he can to get the blossoming sport into the media and on the back pages.
It’s a really important period for the A-League and I do think that some media and fan attention will be taken away by the BBL and the Boxing Day Test so why not get on the front foot, be proud of your product and do everything you can to keep the interest going.
A-League is unstoppable: Gallop
Nice analysis.
Group D is a real tough group as well. The fact that either Italy, England or Uruguay won’t be getting out of the group stage is surely bigger news than if USA or Ghana didn’t make it.
Breaking down the World Cup draw for Europe's top teams
We’ve campaigned so hard to have 3 teams or 2 and a half teams qualify for the ACL group stage. The least we can do is have a decent crack at it.
I can definitely understand the clubs not wanting to compromise their domestic form for ACL success particuarly when it’s not a finacially viable venture. But I don’t see the point in continually finishing in the top 3, not committing to the ACL, being knocked out in the group stage only to go through the whole vicious cycle again. It seems that only the teams who are not a position to requalify for the ACL the following season i.e Adelaide United will fully commit to the competition. With the 3 teams involved this year in the box seat to qualify next season alongside Brisbane the question has to be asked whether any of them will really commit to it.
If this is going to be the Asian century you’d think that some clubs would have the foresight to tap in to a few sponsorship dollars from Asian business and lift their profile through the continent. We’re limited to how much we can spend on players but there’s plenty more to spend money on. Infrastructure, facilities, promotion and top level coaching all spring immediately to mind.
Very interesting to see how all 3 approach the ACL this season…
There's nothing to fear from ACL group stage draw
I was one of the naysayers when M. Johnson appeared in the Ashes squad and I’m more than willing to eat my words. His performances have been brilliant and in a way he has influenced all the England wickets with the batsmen looking to be more expansive against the other bowlers because they were getting nothing from Johnson. He hasn’t single handedly won the Ashes because the Batsmen have put up decent totals which they couldn’t do in England but he’s definitely given them an X-factor.
Has Mitchell Johnson won Australia the Ashes?
Muscat is certainly not endearing himself to the media. I would like to get a MV fans perspective on how they think Muscat is going.
A-League around the water cooler – Round 9
I don’t think anyting beats watching a Wellington game in NZ. Those guys are borderline hilarious with their bias towards the Phoenix.
A-League around the water cooler – Round 9
Mills will be 35 and Ingles will be 36. Delly will be 33 and Baynes will be 37. If any or all of them go to the Paris Olympics they’re surely looking at being role players rather than the focal points.
With Giddey, SGA and Dort they do have the opportunity to build something together. The key will be keeping them and adding pieces as they need it. In line for another high draft pick again this year. Get it right and anything could happen.
Giddey is smashing records, but now he has to turn stats into wins
