Abandon SOO means a loss of TV revenue, why would you do to replace the TV revenue?. The loss of Origin will impact the TV deal and revenue to the game which would be a detriment to rugby league.
How long will the NRL devalue its own competition?
Marco there is no wa team since 98 so the presence is small as a result. if the afl had your mindset there be no team in west Sydney since there is little interest in afl in west Sydney. over time the afl would expect interest to rise eventually just like the swans. why Marco can other code expand freely yet rugby league is the opposite. it always heartland this and that all the time.

wa is needed for the game to grow outside the heartlands. rugby has the force in wa why not league. what it is with league fans such as yourself who want rl to stay still in heartlands and dont expand no wonder the game is at a stand still. too scared to look outside the heartlands. while other codes step up and take a chance.

Would it be possible for me to comment in the rugby league section now and only the league section. It’s all that I ask for thanks.

I’m sure there are rugby fans out there who would like players such as Inglis, Slater and Thurston on the Wallabies. Considering how successful Izzy was in his first season, I’m sure there are some rugby fans who wanted more league converts to be an instant Wallaby like Izzy.

Yes Titans crowd is a concern but the Raiders drew 10k average two straight years that is unacceptable. So stop diverting from the GC and focus on Canberra your home team got alot of work to do to bring back the supporters.

Besides Brisbane, every other league club fail to make a profit. All NRL clubs need to pick up the slack as some of the attendances are just embarrassing for ‘heartland’ clubs eg Penrith and West Tigers. Canberra attendance is the worst in the competition and is a deep concern.

Whenever the next expansion happens it’s a lock that WA will get it at this rate along with Brisbane 2. If the NRL was rebooted A-League style the underperforming clubs would be gone turbo and there would be a more balanced national competition in it’s place. But it’s too late now to do that with tradition, history and ‘passion’ shown in the form of empty seats every week by various clubs.

‘league fans have there heads stuck up there own asses us Union fans can enjoy both codes but u league fans are so childish and immature this us against them mentality ‘
Last I check jonty it goes both ways don’t think that RU fans are angels, if anything during the RLWC they come out in full force to trash it whenever that had the chance too. Union fans can be childish and immature too with snide remarks and pot shots at RL at any given moment. Also, there are union fans who like union only same with league fans who only like league. So to assume union fans enjoy both codes is a stretch vice versa with league.

surprised given guru status consider I produce less articles and comment way less than other prominent gurus on the roar. pleasantly surprised.

When it comes to matching other organizations contracts, it’s safe to say the NRL cannot match what is offer overseas as a result the NRL is ‘defenseless’ in cross-coding whether it’s RU/AFL. As for the NRL can do to ‘defend’ it’s about developing greater incentives to stay in rugby league, the obvious is to increase the salary cap which is already occurring. Also, to make being apart of rugby league worthwhile overall with SOO, NRL and internationals.
Unfortunately, the international side is weak and is rugby’s strongest point. In a ideal world, league’s international game is aleast near as strong as RU perhaps it would of meant more players staying as a result but it will never happy sadly with the NRL holding all the power and the RLIF is powerless to it.

‘My opinion is that they should get over it and start to appreciate both codes’
At the same time Will, is a certain set of Union fans who sink the boot into league whenever a cross-code occurs. So it goes both ways Will.

‘ Unleash the flood gates and we will see how long RL can stand on it’s own two feet without the top talent.’
Jorgi I doubt those involved in RU will go after each and every top talent in RL it wouldn’t be possible as they be demanding a high price to cross over, in-turn draining RU coffers dry if they went with your approach. Along, with potentially disgruntled RU players who wouldn’t approve of such high salaries for unproven players.
Despite new money, NRL fails to stem the flow
It’s a reality Boz, the allure of a international sport/Olympics can draw more league players to rugby. Wouldn’t be surprise if more jump over the next decade. The quality of the NRL will be affected greatly as a result of it.
Despite new money, NRL fails to stem the flow
Last I check clipper the RLWC was in England so to say ‘virtually no international presence like league ‘ is wrong. It’s small but it’s better than none.
Despite new money, NRL fails to stem the flow
‘I keep saying it but ultimately the two codes will quite rightly merge back together. ‘
It will never ever happen, it’s mainly rugby fans who want this to occur. But at league’s lowest nadir, it didn’t merge so why should it merge now reality.

There the football thread if you want to talk about the A-League, you be more at home there and the rugby threads than the league threads. Your agenda against RL is well documented on this site and yet you still get a free pass, while the likes of myself and Crosscoder are under wraps as one would say.
If NRL fans don't show up to finals, what will they show up to?
Tv sport or not it’s a excuse to the majority of general sports fan to not show up to game. Imagine saying that to someone who supports another code ‘oh it’s better to watch it on tv’…they give you a cold glare and say watch it live at the game instead.
If NRL fans don't show up to finals, what will they show up to?
True Marco they show up vs Roosters, yet couldn’t back up in a final. Very strange. League fans in general love excuses to not show up to games just so they can sit on the couch and ‘support’ there team. I made it to majority of the Cowboys home game this year, no problems.
If NRL fans don't show up to finals, what will they show up to?
Johnno
You talk about the 80’s and the crowds were even worst back then when it had all those you mention. So ask me this johnno why did crowds increase after the 80’s and various rule changes, yet the good ole days draw the crowds they did back then.
If NRL fans don't show up to finals, what will they show up to?
it’s not a truth but a excuse scribble to not show up. rl fans think its the truth deluding themselves of what a supporter does. actual sport supporters go to the game…not watching it on tv. tv sport excuse has worn thin forever.
If NRL fans don't show up to finals, what will they show up to?
Matt s its ‘heartland’ so the ratings reflect it…but not in the crowds. swans still top draw in nsw though south’s would outdraw them one day.
If NRL fans don't show up to finals, what will they show up to?
classic tv sport excuse mals..manly for all there success in the past 9 yrs has a pathetic average of 13k this yr. I dread to see if manly had a eels like season.
If NRL fans don't show up to finals, what will they show up to?
Fact more fans show up for a regular season between Souths/Storm than the finals game that is hard to write off no matter how people try to spin it.
If NRL fans don't show up to finals, what will they show up to?
I like that idea turbo, minimises the damage that pre-origin nrl does to teams such as the bulldogs yesterday. I think have all games on Sunday afternoon and night with one Monday game will be fine.
Go Sunday with 2pm (2 games), 3pm (2 games), 4pm (2 games), 6.30pm. Then one MNF game at usual time.
