RACING IN THE CUP! Who Shot The Barman out quickly with Fawkner and Admire Rakti is settling forward with My Ambivalent. Past the post the first time, it’s My Ambivalent pulling in front of Admire Rakti who is in a very handy position. Fawkner has settled fourth with Red Cadeaux out deep. Signoff is midfield and Lucia Valentina is towards the rear of the field with Protectionist. The speed has slackened at the 1000m. Brambles foes up to My Ambilvalent. Admire Rakti is gone. Red Cadeaux hits the front from Signoff. Here comes Protectionist with a huge run and he bursts past them to score! PROTECTIONIST!

My Ambivalent is the first horse into the barriers. She was blind-folded and looks a lot calmer now she is in the barriers.

Jaio Moreira is officially carrying 0.5kg over, so Signoff carries 51.5kg today.

Speed here should come from Mr O’Ceirin and Brambles out wide. As always they will charge down the straight the first time, before trying to stack them up down by the river. In 2012, the leaders got away from them, but I doubt that will happen this year. That will suit Admire Rakti as he looks to claim the Cups double.

Four minutes until jump time and Admire Rakti will start favourite at $6. Money for Lucia Valentina into $6.50 along with Mutual Regard and Signoff into $8.50.

All horses are in great order as they head to the barriers for the 2014 Melbourne Cup. My Ambivalent headed off early, but the stable are happy to see her on her toes. The best in the yard was Red Cadeaux for mine – he looks in great order, but is nine years-old and will need to make history today.

SIGNOFF has come through Saturday’s run. He has spent the last two days at the beach and will need to take another step to challenge his rivals today.

LUCIA VALENTINA in great condition today. She did not need a run between today and the Caulfield Cup and she has a sharp turn of foot.

OPINION is a typical European stayer. His Sydney Cup run was great and he will stay all day.

AU REVOIR has improved in condition since Moonee Valley. Blinkers off should help him settle today.

BRAMBLES has come through the Mackinnon Stakes in good order. The 3200m is the main query.

PRECEDENCE has the Bart Cummings polish. Strong stayer, who will be peaking today after finding trouble at Moonee Valley.

WILLING FOE is Godolphin’s last horse standing in the Cup. He looks in great condition today and James McDonald is looking to go one better than in 2012 when he rode Fiorente.

WHO SHOT THEBARMAN back at Flemington and hasn’t taken a backward step since the Caulfield Cup. He is a big, green stayer, but proven at the distance for Glen Boss.

MUTUAL REGARD looks in great condition. Another traditional English stayer, who has really improved over the past week at Werribee. Damian Oliver rides!

GATEWOOD is also a slightly framed horse as well. OTI have been chasing this race for a very long time. Is this their year?

ROYAL DIAMOND is a traditional looking English stayer. Light frame, but on his toes. Steve Arnold jumps on board from gate 5.

JUNOOB is one of the most impressive horses I have seen. He is big and strong – the 3200m is the only query.

SEISMOS is a dour stayer. He is nice and relaxed again today and is the pace is on, he will keep on grinding away.

PROTECTIONIST is ready to go here. He has really improved in condition off his Herbert Power run. In-form jockey in Ryan Moore jumps aboard and I can’t fault him.

RED CADEAUX is a true professional. Calm and relaxed in the mounting yard. He’s done it all before and would be a fairytale outcome for Ed Dunlop.

FAWKNER has come through his Cox Plate run. He looks even better than at Moonee Valley and looks timed to the minute by the maestro Lloyd Williams.

ADMIRE RAKTI is the topweight. He is on his toes in the yard again today, but this is his normal behaviour. He was kicking out at Caulfield and it is no different today. He was simply brilliant at Caulfield and while is form in Japan is inconsistent, you cannot fault his last performance.

Good on ya Patrick – good luck!
