He’s too old imo. It would be interesting to watch if it did happen though

Could Barry Hall swap the Sherrin for a Steeden?

Andrew, I think you’re right. If Barry Hall was a league player, he wouldnt even have to announce his retirement because the NRL would’ve driven him out themselves ages ago. I think there’s some unsavoury incidents you can get away with in AFL, that you cant in RL and vice versa. Different games, different standards

Redb, As for Barrett and Thurston, both should’ve been punished more heavily and a lot of RL fans and commentators think so too.

As for the Price and White confrontation, I absolutely loved it. I wouldnt wanna see it in every game but once or twice a year is fine by me ; )

You wouldnt get away with that in AFL but you wouldnt see out the NRL season if you headbutted someone or struck them in the head if they were looking the other way also. Like I said, different games, different standards.

Rugby league is going back to the 80s

To be fair, that was probably the first REAL biff Ive seen in a while. Most of the fights in rugby league nowadays are just push and shoves so its not as if it happens all the time

The passion and biff finally returns to Origin footy

I remember a few years back an nrl player(forget his name) struck someone from behind during a game and he was stretchered off. There was so much uproar about him not just by rl administrators but also by rl supporters and he ended up being suspended for the whole year. I think the sentiment among rl supporters is that if your standing toe to toe with someone and both players have a fair shot at each other, then its fair game but if you get struck from behind or wherever without asking for it and you dont have the opportunity to defend yourself, then that is seen as more ugly and unacceptable.

In any case, if a child watched that game and saw that fight and suddenly felt the urge to start a fight in the school playground just because of what he watched on tv, me thinks that the child probably already has issues. Children are not that stupid ; )

The passion and biff finally returns to Origin footy

Loved last night’s game. Sure there were heaps of errors but there was more fire and intensity in this match than the other 3.

The Price/ White biff was fair game coz they were one on one but I did think QLD targeting Gidley was over the top. That to me was more unacceptable

The passion and biff finally returns to Origin footy

My favourite show is the Sunday Roast on Channel nine but I generally like any show Phil Gould is on. I dont agree with everything he says and I find him annoying at times when he commentates games but I do think he’s probably the most interesting and opinionated football tv personalities going around

A look at the best sports show on TV

Redb,

the swans dont even rate that well anymore. Even their “blockbuster” with collingwood got around 90,000 viewers. Not a lot of people watch the swans anymore and you honestly think they would care to watch an interstate game and even though that saints v geelong game was awesome, it would not have rated that well in sydney imo.

Rugby codes drop the ball in Melbourne

I think 1991 was the last time they missed out on the finals (not 100%sure) which is very impressive. They’ve got Tonie Carroll back but they need to bring back someone like Shaun Berrigan….what is he doing now?

Brisbane Broncos early season stampede halted

Melbourne and Manly are the only 2 teams right now that could stop this GF from happening. I have a really bad feeling Manly are going to be there.

Dragons and Bulldogs on a Grand Final collision course

Is it just me or does every single sport in the world think that the DT is out to get them? AFL, NRL,Soccer, all think they’re hard done by by them.

At the end of the day, they are a paper that have no real ethics and just print stories TO SELL NEWSPAPERS OR GET PEOPLE TALKING. If that means exaggerating certain off-field scandals by footballers then that is what they will do.

Who's derailing the Socceroos express?

Record TV ratings
Near sell out crowd in an AFL heartland (What do you reckon an Essendon v collingwood game would draw in sydney or brisbane?)

END OF STORY

Billy your a typical fickle blues supporter.

State of Origin, I forgot it was on!

The only clubs most fans would hate their teams to be merged with are the roosters and manly (and to a lesser extent the bulldogs). I dont think a merger is such a bad idea (depending on the combination).

How about the parramatta penrith eels? just imagine the playing talent from both teams, Jarrod hayne , hindmarsh, mateo with Luke lewis, civoniceva and jennings or the manly easts sea eagles(coz the rooster is a stupid mascot)? Jamie lyon, orford, whatmough, with anasta, minichello and Im sure the roosters fans wouldnt mind having lyon and whatmough in their team right now. They could split their home games between brookvale and the SFS and the same applies to parramatta/penrith. Sure it would take some adjusting and it might even switch a few people off the game but eventually I think people will embrace it.

Ideally this is what Id like to see:

Brisbane
2nd Brisbane(Cronulla relocate)
Central QLD
Nth QLD
Gold Coast
Newcastle
Central Coast
Manly/Easts
Parramatta/Penrith
Canterbury
St george
Wests
Souths
Canberra
Melbourne
Auckland(warriors)
Wellington
Perth

I think thats a decent 18 team comp

The Sharks are worth fighting for

There’s way too many teams in sydney. If there was ever an opportunity to get rid of one of them, then this is it. Im not a fan of a partial relocation and I think the sharks should make a full relocation somewhere in QLD or Brisbane. Ideally Id like to see 2 other sydney clubs merge but I doubt that would happen anytime soon. Personally, I think 6 teams in sydney is enough. Sydney RL fans can share those 6 teams (whoever they are)

The Sharks are worth fighting for

Your right Billo, most people do come out with an expletive in those circumstances but I dont know if most people come out with racial slurs when things get heated like that. Gallen and the sharks are very very lucky, Paea didnt go on with it. The club would have had to deal with more bad publicity, if he did.

Paea plays down Gallen bust-up

They spoke about this on the Sunday Roast and believe it or not, statistically there’s been less penalties this year compared to last year’s first 8 rounds.

Big Artie Beetson is angry, and so am I

Jamie Lyon is the best centre going around right now and Id love to see him get picked
I know he doesnt wanna play but I reckon once he gets into camp and runs out on to the field at SOO, he might have a change of heart after all he is renowned for being a bit confused. I mean leaving parramatta coz of home sickness then he goes to england

If Lyon doesn't want to play, then let him be

Benjamin,
There’s more passing in league compared to union. I mean some of the rugby union centres and backs would be lucky to see the ball in some games so of course there’d be more dropped ball in league.
Im actually a fan of matt johns idea and the idea of using a water polo sort of ball. Sure, It doesn’t guarantee that all the games will be mistake free but it means that the weather has less of an impact.

Mistakes in league? It must be the ball's fault

Farah should be the hooker. He’s been in good form for the past 2 years and I dont think he has performered “badly” enough to lose the no. 9 jersey

Ennis gets one hand on the blue jumper

As a western sydney resident, I’d love to see a team over here. I dont think one sydney team is enough, given how spread out sydney is. It will never take over league but I think it will have a decent following

Should Western Sydney have an AFL club?
