Merrin to definitely quit Dragons: report
I still find it rather compelling that the $600K figure was so readily leaked to the media by St George themselves early on in the piece which I think was a means of saving face with a supporter base that is already on the nose against Peter Doust & co for releasing Brett Morris. At least the club thinks they can save face by saying that Merrin didnt go cheaply. Who knows if this figure is even true? Only Merrin, his manager & the clubs negotating with him know the real $$$$ on offer.
As for Merrin’s performances hard to believe a player who isnt far off being a Gallen or Parker in terms of the metres, hit ups, tackles & offloads provided for his team week in week out can be villified by so many fans when I bet quite a few of them cant wait to put him in their Supercoach teams.
Merrin to definitely quit Dragons: report
Whilst on League in Crisis articles the DT’s decision to wait 2 months after the draw was released to question the decision (quitely rightly) to take a Western derby game in Parramatta v Penrith to the NT whats doing there???
NRL in crisis? What crisis?
Tim the Arizona affair should have been a simple affair but Souths made things very difficult with their nothing to see approach over the sacking of the first premiership captain in history in John Sutton – had Richo & Madge been truthful from the start for the reasons behind the sacking this would have blown well & truly over by now
NRL in crisis? What crisis?
they are missing Tariq Sims thou – time is of the essence for this team to win a comp thou in the new future
NRL in crisis? What crisis?
stop right there – ex Canberra mates dont equal premiership success Timmy 🙂
NRL in crisis? What crisis?
In NSW we now get Andrew Moore on ABC Grandstand too
Just on the Broncos everyone attacks them for their Friday night exposure but Im not sure too many people have noticed the favours given to the Bulldogs either – almost as many Friday night games as the Broncos, a home draw most other Sydney teams would die for & the team who will travel the least number of kms for their away games
NRL in crisis? What crisis?
Just on James Roberts being a loss, although tehnically correct but given the timing of his sacking didnt play a game for Penrith in 2014 & didnt contribute to their results as such.
NRL season preview: Penrith Panthers
I’m tipping them to have a sluggish start to the season only becuase of the limited preparation many of the players have had due to off season surgery & the like. If they can get through origin & after Round 18 have at least a 9 & 7 win loss record I expect them with the run home they have to come home & finish in the top 4 provided they are in better shape than last year injury wise.

Having written on this subject myself, more than happy to see the end of being able to sign up to 15 months in advance for your next club & instead have the end of season as your transfer window for immediate movement of players & then a second window during the rep season to allow players to also immediately move. We’ve seen a record number of players move immediately where they were contracted to their existing club for 1 or more seasons & quite frankly I think fans have had a gutful of players hanging around for that last season if its already known they are moving on elsewhere next year.
Dithering NRL needs a player transfer window, now
Had this happened in Sydney speculation would have emerged within 24-48 hours of the incident & Souths would have had no option but to acknowledge such an incident the first time.
Given that this was an incident that happened in a country where our footballers would not exactly be recognisable, Souths clearly opted to roll the dice & go down the path of brand protection as a reason not to say anything. Had they just fined the two players in question instead of being the first club in NRL history to sack its premiership winning captain for no other apparent reason they probably would have succeeded in keeping it in house.
Nonetheless regardless of the punishments dished out, its unfortunate that an incident that has been dealt 2 months ago could not be acknowledged by the club at the time given what appeared to be an unusual decision in relieving Sutton of the captaincy. Now NRL fans are supposed to trust the game’s future in the hands of an employee who can’t tell the truth when asked a simple question?
Souths' Sutton, Burgess in US incident
Cronulla’s Luke Lewis finally gets to say return home to the Riff in his 3rd season as a Shark – that will be an interesting game to say the least
The must-see games in the 2015 NRL season
I would think that the Dragons with some of their venues being on or near the coast would be perferctly suited to day time in March. I can say what I want re: March day time – its been proven yet again with our 2 March home games yet again allocated in the heat of the day. This & the Roosters home clash being played on MNF, overall Penrith’s home game allocation has finally after years of neglect from the NRL has improved for the better in 2015.
It's too bloody hot to play footy in March at Penrith
No Sydney team in the past 14 seasons has been allocated more daytime home games in March then Penrith.
No excuses for Penrith fans in 2015 NRL draw
Well well the NRL in its infinite wisdom gave Penrith its 2nd day time home game for good measure – fortunately able to take this game out to Bathurst where given it will be slightly cooler than Penrith considering the 4:30pm timeslot.
Overall thou apart from the NRL attempting to kill off our home crowd numbers with insistance of playing day time footy in Sydney’s hottest venue not a bad draw for Penrith – some Sat night, some Sunday arvos in Winter & even more Sydney home games

If TV revenue is expected to double why do clubs need to increase ticket prices on the back of increased TV revenue share just becuase they might actually invest some $$$ into half time entertainment?
The game is cracked in some places but it isnt broken enough to warrant these form of changes.
This to me is a reaction from the networks shit scared of losing advertising revenue that will ensue if player power pushing for shorter seasons & stand alone rep weekends wins the day.
NRL's 100-minute revolution; Is it a good idea?
Im surprised that clubs if they arent already are not playing intra club trials in order to fomr new combinations etc. Trials to me arent really required but if they want preseason footy so badly why not have a pre season comp & have some sort of purpose to play for in that sense?
Myles calls for rethink of NRL trials
My tip is that Parramatta will sign Foran early in the new year…..but again have to feel for Manly fans who have to endure this for up to a season before it all evenutates. Restrict contract negotiations to the off season, remove the R13 flip back provision & have a mid season transfer window.
Foran to decide future in 2015
Great comparison between Maloney vs Burgess – there’s a big difference when a player is leaving for greener pastures (eg Maloney) vs a player leaving for new challenges (eg S Burgess). I highly doubt Sam could bear to play against the Bunnies.
Is it time to consider a transfer window?
I wouldn’t be restrictive in regards to a window within the off season as such – I think the off season combined with a mid season window is more than satisfactory.
Is it time to consider a transfer window?
The Telegraph had the best 5 grand finals of the modern era – 1989, 1991, 1997, 2003 & 2005 & this GF as drought breaking as it was wouldnt compare for quids on these GF’s for me – I just felt the final 10 minutes was a reflection of what should have happened much earlier in the game – the Dogs offered little except pride on their try line as they were hopelessly outclassed by a superior Souths side that really should have had the GF wrapped up at HT.
Souths' victory the greatest grand final ever
Simmons was injured the week before in his comeback game
Why Penrith will dare to dream for another week
This is a great team going on form in the main – I would have Radradra as the winger over RTS thou & Jackson over Mannering otherwise this is the form team of the season IMO

Happy to say that on current form Segeyaro would be in the top 5 hookers in the game
