Couple of great prelims this weekend, both underdogs are capable of upsets so it’ll be interesting. Watch out for the Buddy factor in the Hawks-Pies clash, and Ottens will have it tough against the Cox-Nic Nat combo – if Kerr has another great game feeding on the ruck taps then an upset is on the cards. An interesting feature of that game will be the Selwood-Selwood battle (Joel v Scott).

Collingwood need to win big, Geelong need a close one

Ratten has done ok with the list he has, obviously they have a great midfield and quite a few of their players have improved, BUT BUT BUT, as it has been mentioned they need a key forward. It’s vital. If I was in charge of the Blues, I’d scrape up every available dollar and coin, and throw it at John Butcher of Port Adelaide. He’s just what they need.

One thing I don’t agree with is Ratten’s use of Bryce Gibbs, that guy should be playing midfield 100% of the time. Sure he’s versatile enough to play a mix of roles, but he should find someone else to perform the lock down and defensive jobs. What a waste.

Brett Ratten deserves another Carlton contract

Heppell is a deserving winner of the award for 2011, however, I think Shuey was slightly ahead in terms of the influence he had in games. Another disadvatage for some players based outside of Victoria is that the panel which votes on the award is largely made up Victorians, so there may be a slight bias towards Victorian-based clubs. I’m sure this comment is sure to upset some people but it can’t be dismissed!

AFL Rising Star award needs some tinkering

I read somewhere that 20-odd NFL players have been arrested during the lockout period!

As NFL lockout ends, AFL should take note

This squad is better than I thought they would present. Cheers for Copeland’s and Pattinson’s inclusion, and Smith’s omission. Jeers for the retention of Phil Hughes.

And it’s a bit sad that our frontline spinners are actually uncontracted.

Test squad for Tour of Sri Lanka announced

Channel 7 were bad with Rugby in Perth but I think Channel 9 will be worse. Looks like I’ll be spending some time at the pub!

Is Channel Nine really the free-to-air home of rugby?

By beating Carlton away from home the Eagles proved that they are capable and deserving of a top 4 spot, however, as stated in the article the timing of the bye won’t help them. Cats by 16.

The big question is where is Mick Malthouse heading? He won’t go to any of the smaller clubs like Melbourne or Bulldogs, which means Hawthorn or Carlton may make a play for him. Clarkson and Ratten really have to excel for the remainder of the season to keep their jobs.

Which AFL coaches are facing the sack?

If only Cricket Australia shared your point of view!

Why Test matches are still the most exciting

Knights just could not get the respect of the players. It would’ve been hard for anyone to take over from a coach who had been there for 27 years.

Is James Hird really Essendon's saviour?

Hehe hope no one took offense, cheers mate

Is James Hird really Essendon's saviour?

The big difference between Hird and Voss is that Hird has surrounded himself with assistants who have a wealth of experience. Without Bomber Thompson he would’ve found the job a lot more tougher.

Plus his ego isn’t as big as Voss’s – Voss had the arrogance to think he could instantly manufacture a flag and it’s put Brisbane back a couple of years.

It’s funny how many Essendon fans forget or don’t realise Sheedy was once a Richmond player too!

Is James Hird really Essendon's saviour?

The Campbell Brown incidents against the Bulldogs and the subsequent lenient punishment handed out points to the fact that the MRP is a farce. They had an opportunity to make an example of him, but 2 weeks for an off-the-ball elbow to the face is just laughable. It seems the AFL didn’t want to suspend him for too many games because the Suns need all their experienced players out on the park.

Anything goes off the ball, so long as it doesn't look bad

I think we should leave it as it is – while some points are valid I hate the idea of a player playing for two clubs in one season.

Revolutionising the AFL's trade period

Actually it’s a bit easier to get a touch in AFL these days due to a reduction in one-on-one contests. I can’t believe he couldn’t get at least one touch. Did I read correctly that he got one hit-out? If so he’d be playing in the ruck and SURELY he could’ve got hold of it at least a couple of times!

I’d like to see him do well but it’s going to take time and a lot of hard work – you can’t just pocket 6 million and expect to instantly turn into Adam Goodes.

Israel Folau: Izzy a flop?

Carn the ROYALS!!

I did read that East Perth and West Perth are looking to merge as the third AFL team. I couldn’t think of anything worse – West Perth make me sick! Go it alone Royals!

Foxtel Cup: East Perth versus North Ballarat

Bit worried about Andy Otten, Craig came out and said he would be a perfectly suited ‘sub’ player.

AFL Dream Team preview: Backline

Some good points there Michael. They will have a good year, but it’ll be hard to beat the Pies and the Cats. They’ll miss Harbrow more than people realise, he was a great rebounding defender.

Everyone’s talking up the Hawks but I’m not convinced. Some players have had a bad couple of years with form and injury so it’ll be interesting to see how they go in 2011.

My tip for 2011? Western Bulldogs to be premiers

Can Collingwood go back to back this season?

Ok so which AFL clubs will miss the finals?

Very sad news. He never held back in his articles and always backed up his arguments. Rest in peace.

Vale Vinay Verma: a titan among cricket writers

There are quite a few decent players in both of those scorecards, such a shame Australia doesn’t have the luxury to pick a Test side from the state teams anymore.

This Big Bash nonsense is just plain wrong.

Faux teams a new hope or false beginning?

What colour balls do you suggest using for night tests?

TV will hate Test cricket at night, especially if it isn’t the Ashes, it will get in the way of those stupid shows like Border Control, or Bondi Vet, or Crap Patrol.

Aussie cricket needs former champion top-level players at the top of the food chain, not former fringe players. Replace the Andrew Hildiches and Jamie Coxes of the world with the Steve Waughs and Shane Warnes and everything will fix itself. Easier said than done I suppose.

How I would fix Australian cricket

Maybe CA need to review the Australian Cricket Academy. I had a look at their list of managers and coaching staff and the only person who played at the top level was Craig McDermott.

For the sake of cricket, they must reinvigorate the Shield
