After a frustrating week of weather, the skies finally look a little more hopeful as Australia takes on Ireland at the Gabba. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7pm (AEDT).
With a passage to the semi-finals that requires nothing but wins, Australia must earn the two points against Ireland tonight, before doing the same against Afghanistan this coming Friday.
Effectively, there is no tomorrow for them should anything bar two comfortable wins transpire, as the group stage continues to play out unusually.
Both weather and shock results have made the run to the semi-finals a tricky one for all of the Group 1 teams outside of New Zealand, and the Aussies are mired in the middle of the pack heading into this clash.
Big decisions will be made by the selectors in the lead-up, with Steve Smith mooted by many as an important addition to a top order that has not impressed thus far in the tournament. Aaron Finch appears likely to remain at the top of the order despite his poor form; and questions around Pat Cummins and his suitability in the T20 format have been interesting discussion points all week.
Whichever XI does take to the field tonight, they will need to be attentive to the Irish threat that caught the English out last Wednesday.
In Joshua Little and Mark Adair, the Irish have accurate and composed quicks who troubled the English top order and Lorcan Tucker and Andrew Balbirnie are accomplished batsmen capable of building a score through the middle overs.
Australia will be looking for more from David Warner and Glenn Maxwell, two match-winners that have yet to hit their straps, and potential crucial players in achieving the two convincing wins required for the Australians heading into a semi-final.
Prediction
Whilst poor form, selection issues and weather have all played a role in derailing the Australian T20 tilt thus far, this is a real opportunity for them to make a statement and build some confidence heading into the final group match against Afghanistan, where the Aussies will know exactly what they will have to do to qualify.
Ireland will put up stern resistance, yet the class of the Aussies and a return to one of their happy hunting grounds should be enough to see them secure a relatively comfortable win.
