Top filly Mosheen has won the 2011 Crown Oaks, casting aside doubt over her staying abilities winning the 2500m race by nine lengths over Dowager Queen and long shot Roma Giaconda.

Mosheen, who was sixth in the Myer Classic after over-racing during the 1600m race was always a query runner, having never been tested beyond the old mile length.

While Atlantic Jewel was expected to demolish the field before being unable to run due to a hamstring injury, in her absence Mosheen stamped her class on the race and won by one of the biggest margins in recent times, having led from start to finish.

Dowager Queen was distant second, having disappointed after getting the run of the race and couldn’t last the trip.

Winning jockey Danny Nikolic says Mosheen’s ability to stay was in question, but said “She looks like she could do it again.”

Nikolic says he knew he was on the winner 600 metres from home.

Trainer Robert Smerdon hinted at his pre-race nerves after the win: “Look I was profit a doom, feared the worst, hoped she’d relax enough – she relaxed in front, had an easy run and she quickened down the straight like the others couldn’t … she’s won so well”
