Jason Culina has quit Gold Coast United FC to join the Newcastle Jets for the 2011/12 season. Culina will play under his father, Branko Culina, in the Jets squad. The 30-year old Socceroo has not played in the A-League finals series for the Gold Coast after suffering a knee injury in the Asian Cup.

It is believed Culina is attracted to the Newcastle club due to the stability and promise of strong support by new owner Nathan Tinkler.

Branko Culina had previous refused to comment on his son, and would commit to only stating: “The club has been negotiating with a number of players … [to] bring really quality players in”.

The club has further re-signed star performer Nikolai Topor-Stanley.
