Australian world no.1 Ashleigh Barty will take on Alison Van Uytvanck of Belgium in the second round at Wimbledon. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match from 8:00pm (AEST).

After a brilliant start to 2019, Barty has the number one ranking and therefore more favourable early matches in this tournament.

In Barty’s opening match, she defeated Saisai Zheng of China in straight sets, 6-4 6-2.

This relatively cruisy match allowed her to blow out some cobwebs and loosen the shoulders, following a week without competitive games due to her withdrawal at Eastbourne.

Challenged in the first set by Zheng’s net game, Barty battled to find her range on the forehand and was unable to dominate with the slice backhand as she would have liked to.

After breaking to take the first set, Barty didn’t look back, finishing the match in one hour and 16 minutes.

As always, Barty is keeping a level head and is only focussed on the next task at hand; her second-round opponent Van Uytvanck.

On Tuesday, Van Uytvanck beat Svetlana Kuznetsova in three sets to move through to the second round, where she now faces the world number one.

Van Uytvanck’s 6-4 4-6 6-2 victory over the former world number two took a little under two hours.

Currently ranked number 58 in the world, the right-hander Van Uytvanck had a good run at Wimbledon last year, making it through to the fourth round.

Barty and Van Uytvanck have only played once before, in Montreal in 2018. On that occasion, Barty won 7-6 6-2.

Prediction
It will be a tougher match-up against Van Uytvanck’s serve, but Barty should be able to use her variety to put pressure on the big shots in Van Uytvanck’s repertoire.

Another good hit out awaits, but Barty should move through comfortably to the third round.

Barty in straight sets.
