Karolina Pliskova and Naomi Osaka face off in the second semi-final of the Brisbane International. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 5:45pm (AEDT).

The Brisbane International is set up perfectly, with two cracking semi-finals. The second of which seems likely to provide the eventual champion. Madison Keys and Petra Kvitova will have already decided the first of the spots in the final before Japan’s number one Naomi Osaka does battle with the number two player in the world Karolina Pliskova.

Osaka outlasted Kiki Bertens in three sets in the quarter finals, her third match of the tournament that went the full distance. Pliskova defeated Alison Riske in her match to reach the final four, looking as powerful and strong as she did in her matches late in 2019.

This clash looms as something of an epic with both women prepared to stand up in the court in an attempt to take time away from their opponent. That should lead to a brutal ground stroke battle with the player able to move their opponent around from the base line at a distinct advantage.

Both women serve well and will use that weapon to set up much of their play. Look for 1st service percentage to be a key statistic in this match.

There will be little in this contest and Osaka will fancy her chances against the second best player in the world. However, it will be Pliskova for me with a dominant serve and the ability to soak up pressure the keys to an eventual three set victory.
