Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer meet for the 50th time in a semi-final of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:30pm (AEDT).
Another chapter in one of tennis’ greatest rivalries will be written tonight as world no.2 Novak Djokovic faces the third-ranked Federer on Rod Laver Arena. It a match that will make for the hottest ticket in town, Djokovic will enter as a firm favourite and with Rafael Nadal out of the event, the man most likely to take the overall title.
Federer was tight and sore in his quarter-final victory over Tennys Sandgren, somehow escaping, and there will be much doubt around his ability to match Djokovic physically.
The Serb has been nothing but impressive throughout the tournament, rarely threatened and looking fit, fresh and happy each and every time he has taken to the court.
Federer trails in the head-to-head stats 23-26 and may need to find some of his absolute best and vintage form if he is to threaten Djokovic. Logic says the Serb will conquer the Swiss with ease, but does the old master have one more card trick up his sleeve?
As disappointing a result as it may turn out to be, I cannot see Federer winning a set against Djokovic tonight. His tough run appears to have drained some energy from the tank and injury aside, the Serbian will impose himself physically, having looked sharp and effective from the opening day of the tournament.
