This exciting weight for age contest will be the final Group 1 race of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and it should be a cracker!

This race has historically been kind to the favourites, with seven of the past ten winning.

This year could prove to play out a bit differently as there are several horses currently on the entry list that could start as favourite come Saturday.

Rebel Dane, who is coming of a strong second behind Lankan Rupee, has since impressed in track work and according to trainer Gary Portelli, he will appreciate the extra distance.

Weary ran an impressive third in the Doncaster Mile and is a confirmed starter. Red Tracer is stepping back to her preferred distance where she is a five-time winner.

Steps In Time is also returning to her preferred trip according to trainer Joseph Pride. He also stated that this could be her last race. She is a four-time winner at 1400m and won the Group 1 Coolmore two starts back.

Snitzerland is another horse who interests me. Snitzerland is stepping out to 1400m for the first time and struggled last start on the heavy going. If the track is downgraded again, she won’t be a starter according to trainer Gerald Ryan.

Japanese visitor, Hana’s Goal, made good late ground in the Doncaster to finish sixth. Tiger Tees, who has been racing well this prep, won the Group 1 Galaxy and ran a handy fourth last start behind Lankan Rupee.

One of the telling factors come Saturday could be the fact that the rail is going to be out nine metres! This suggests that it will most likely favour the on-pace runners and it is likely some trainers will have to re-think their race strategies.

Sydney’s forecast for the rest of the week looks ok with a little rain for Friday and cloudy conditions for race day, so a track in the ‘dead’ range is expected.
