Debonairly blew the field away on Wednesday in the filly’s debut run at Warwick Farm, winning by over four lengths in the lead up to the famous Magic Millions in January.

The two-year-old made her first run a memorable one at the Schweppes Plate.

Being ridden by legendary jockey Kerrin McEvoy, she led from start to finish to pass the post four lengths ahead of short-priced pre-race favourite Te Amo and over eight lengths back to third-place Membership.

While staying humble about the result, McEvoy was more than pleased with the filly’s debut form.

“Obviously it’s only a small race here today but she’s done it quite stylishly,” said McEvoy.

“She was on song today and ready to pump. She was out quickly and was never in doubt.”

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, the two-year-old has been touted for big things early in her career after being picked up at the Magic Millions Yearling Sales at the beginning of the year.

Now 12 months later, Waterhouse and Bott are confident she can make a triumphant return to the Millions as a winner.

Madeenaty remains firm favourite for the $2 million Magic Millions 2yo Classic after a third place finish at the Ottawa Stakes, but Debonairly has shortened right up in the punters market after her win.

She’s dropped down to $12 already and is expected to fall further into the start of January.

Invincible Star ($9) and Chauffeur ($10) are the only other two horses to sit ahead of Debonairly in the betting markets.

Waterhouse and Bott’s racing manager Emma Pearce was also quick to talk up the starting win and believes Debonairly has everything needed to take on the big race.

“Just the way she jumped, went to the front and didn’t get caught… I’d like to see that early January,” she said.

“She’s got Gold Coast filly stamped all over her.”

The filly isn’t scheduled in for another race as of yet but it’s expected that she’ll run a couple of barrier trials and possibly be squeezed into a race before January 14.

Waterhouse has won the Millions four times already but will be looking to hand Bott his maiden win at the Gold Coast event in their debut year as training partners.
