What are your favourite nicknames amongst your favourite players? The Wallabies are a mixed bunch when it comes to nicknames. Some of the most established names with fans are: Fat Cat – Benn Robinson, because he looks like him.

Big Kev – James Horwill, because he is always excited!

Justin Beiber – James O’Connor, no explanation required.

Dingo – Robbie Deans, originally meant as a sledge, I think the name is actually a positive association with Australia these days.

Lately we’ve also been introduced to Squeaky, Stephen Moore and Baritone, Sekope Kepu. Baritone apparently comes from the school yard but I have no idea about Squeaky.

From fellow Roarer’s I’ve picked up Notso, Nathan Sharpe and Two Dads, Adam Ashley-Cooper.

One of my favourite is not a nickname at all, Will Genia’s actual first name is Sanchez.

In some cases I’ve made up nicknames myself that are now in circulation amongst my mates and I submit for your consideration:

Marlon for the self christened BrandO’connor.

Cake is gateau in French and given Matt Giteau is off to France there seems to be something poetic here.

Teletubby – David Pocock earns his nickname from his namesake Po – although he could equally be the Kungfu Panda.

Quaalude is fairly obvious if not that imaginative.

I feel we are letting Ben Alexander, Tatafu Polota-Nau, Dan Vickerman, Scott Higginbotham and Digby Ioane down by calling them BA, TPN, Vicks, Higgers and Diggers respectively.

And Rocky Elsom, Radike Samo, Pat McCabe, Kurtly Beale, Rob Simmons, Rob Horne, James Slipper, Ben McCalman, Luke Burgess, Drew Mitchell and the Faingaa twins don’t seem to have nicknames at all.

By my reckoning there are over half the squad without a decent nickname, Roarers got any good ones to add to the list? Non-Aussies, how do your teams compare in the nickname stakes?
