Kangaroos' coach has Scott it wrong

I might be in the minority but the issue raised by the Scott brothers has really got to me.

As a fanatical Geelong supporter I was at Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon and loved watching a game of footy bathed in Sunshine. So what for a little rain, that’s what footy is all about.

Brad Scott acted in a manner not in the spirit of the game as soon as the final siren sounded.

There is little doubt that he is one of the most passionate personalities in the game and he would have be seething about his team throwing a large lead away but this does not give him the right to abuse an AFL official only seconds after the games conclusion.

The North Melbourne coach said: ”I asked the question of the ground manager after the game, and he said, ‘We looked at the forecast and it said it wasn’t going to rain’. I said, ‘I’m not sure how long you’ve been living in Melbourne’.”

This is a very disrespectful comment. To his credit he has since apologised for his actions.

Almost all the football ‘experts’ have agreed with Scott’s comment and have called for the roof to be shut for every game no matter the conditions above.

When Etihad Stadium was constructed it was built with a retractable roof not a permanent one and when the forecast is for sunshine keep the roof open.

I am not one that will always agree with AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou but on this issue I certainly do. “It’s not that bad – a little bit of rain. We had a bit of rain at the MCG and we didn’t have a roof. I wouldn’t worry about it” he said.

No one is saying the roof decision had an impact on the game but was just a waste of the roof. Well what for the waste of the perfect sunshine we had for 95% of the game time.

Maybe it is time for the AFL and Etihad to sit down and discuss the possibility of closing the roof mid-game if the ‘Melbourne weather turns it on’ but for now keep it open for a little bit of sunshine every now and then.

The Scott boys seem like they need a little sunshine in their lives.
