When we think of Roger Federer we think of a champion, the record breaker and the master. However it looks like the Swiss master is on the decline.

2013 has not been the year of Roger. Although Federer started the season strongly, he only won one title at Halle in the lead up to Wimbledon, where he suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Sergiy Stakhovsky in the second round.

After the defeat at Wimbledon, Federer failed to hit winning form heading towards the US Open, losing early round games to opponents he was expected to beat.

The 17 time Grand Slam champion would normally bounce back from these shock loses, but has had trouble getting out of this slump, which has got people wondering if the best of Federer is a thing of the past?

When it came time for the US Open, Federer started on fire, making it to the round of 16 comfortably, not dropping a set.

He would not win another set for the tournament, losing in straight sets to the 19th seed Tommy Robredo, shocking the Flushing Meadows crowd.

Federer 32, has been as high as world number two this year but has plummeted to number six – the first time he has been outside the top five since August 2003.

While many hope King Rodger never retires and stays at his best forever, the question needs to be asked, will next year’s Australian Open be the last time we see Roger Federer step out onto Rod Laver Arena?
