Two-time defending champion Luke Durbridge will definitely ride at this week’s Australian road cycling titles after recovering from illness.

Durbridge is one of the main drawcards for the championships in and around Ballarat.

But he pulled out of Sunday’s last round of the Bay Classic criterium series with a throat infection.

Orica-GreenEDGE team director Matt Wilson said at the time he was unsure whether Durbridge would be ready for Wednesday’s time trial, which is his pet event.

But GreenEDGE general manager Shayne Bannan said at a team sponsorship launch in Melbourne on Wednesday that Durbridge would compete.

Bannan said Durbridge was using Tuesday to train on the new nationals time trial course at Burrumbeet, near Ballarat.

“He’s 100 per cent and looking forward to tomorrow … he’s raring to go,” Bannan said.

Durbridge had unprecedented success at last year’s nationals, winning the time trial and the road race.

Orica-GreenEDGE have dominated the nationals since the team formed in 2012 and they will again field a powerful team at the championships.

Simon Gerrans, who won the national road race title two years ago, will again be among the favourites for Sunday’s event.

Orica-AIS team member Gracie Elvin will defend her road race title and Shara Gillow is again the woman to beat in Wednesday’s time trial.
