Ninth seed Richard Gasquet will attempt to kick off his 2014 Australian Open campaign with a win when he faces David Guez on Showcourt Three. We’ll have live scores from 1.30pm AEDT.

David Guez (176) enters his fourth Australian Open off the back of three consecutive wins, all of them fairly dominant displays.

His only slip up in the three matches was dropping four games in the first set against Japan’s Yuichi Sugita.

Guez has played 17 future tournaments and been victorious on 12 of those occasions, with an ATP Tour Challenger title to go along with it.

The only significant victory Guez has had to date came against Stanislas Wawrinka in 2009 at the BNP Paribas Masters.

It is only the second time he’s qualified for the Open, and his first run ended in the first round against Julien Benneteau.

Much like 2010, he won through the three qualifying rounds, and this time he’ll be hoping to change the fortunes around.

His match experience though shouldn’t be discounted. In October 2013 playing the ITF Pro Circuit in France he was undefeated through the first four rounds before stumbling in the final 2-1.

Guez will need to his qualifying form through and draw on what experience he has to topple ninth seed Richard Gasquet.

Gasquet is certainly no stranger to the Australian Open being a regular in the tournament since 2002 (he didn’t appear in 2005).

He’s made the last 16 at least four times however he has unfortunately been undone against top-ranking players inside the top 10.

While not regarded as a serious title contender, each year Gasquet has the ability of slipping past opponents with consistent performances.

He played in the Kooyong Classic this past weekend with a less than impressive build up.

He was troubled in the first round, his second-round match didn’t finish out and Gasquet chose to withdraw from the final with general soreness.

With the temperature set to rise on Day 1 to the high 30s across Melbourne both players will be sorely tested in a close affair.
