After a week of crashes, fevers and sprint finishes, the Giro d’Italia’s next big general classification shake up could happen today at the summit finish in Montecopiolo.

Join us from 10:30pm AEST for all the live updates, thrills and spills as we climb the first big mountains of the Tour.

The peloton will travel 179 kilometres today from Foligno to Montecopiolo, and pre-race favourites Cadel Evans, Nairo Quintana, Ivan Basso, and all the other General Classification contenders will be glad that they are finally on the terrain that favours them.

Although Stage 6 was an uphill finish, the race was blown apart by a crash that took out riders such as Joaquim Rodriguez, Janez Brajkovic and Giampaolo Caruso, who are all out of this year’s Giro with broken bones.

The race up to Montecopiolo will be the first time the favourites will take each other on man to man, and what makes it more exciting is that almost everyone needs to make up time on Cadel Evans.

My prediction? Cadel Evans is going to come under fire from the Colombians, namely Rigoberto Uran and Nairo Quintana, and there will be time gaps, and maybe even a change in the pink jersey, it will be difficult for Michael Matthews to keep his jersey.
