The last week of the Giro d’Italia has provided the drama the organisers craved after a crash-riddled first week. Join us here on The Roar for Stage 19 from 11:00pm AEST.

The drama has come not just from mountain-top attacks, but from the actions of Nairo Quintana, Pierre Rolland and Ryder Hesjedal on Stage 16.

Whether the race was neutralised or not, Quintana ripped the maglia rosa from the back of Rigoberto Uran to take the race lead by 1 minute and 41 seconds.

Despite protests, the result still stands, and after two more stages Quintana is still in the lead. Today’s stage, a mountain time trial of 26.8 kilometres from Bassano de Grappa to Cima Grappa, should provide excitement as well as time gaps.

In a normal time trial, we would be expecting Quintana to lose time to Uran, but 20 kilometres is uphill, meaning the diminutive race leader will be looking to consolidate his lead.

The third step on the podium is where the real shake-up could occur. Pierre Rolland currently occupies it, 3 minutes and 29 seconds down on Quintana, but Fabio Aru and Rafal Majka are just 2 seconds behind the Frenchman. Also circling is Domenico Pozzovivo, another 21 seconds back.

Cadel Evans slipped to ninth on yesterday’s stage, but has vowed to continue fighting. He will be looking to overtake the two men ahead of him, Ryder Hesjedal and Wilco Kelderman.

I can’t see anyone getting past Quintana, but the battle for the podium has to be one of the most interesting in years. Join us on The Roar for all the action tonight.
