Karolina Pliskova will play Angelique Kerber for the women’s singles title at the 2016 US Open at 6am (AEST) on Sunday 11 September (AEST).

The match may be delayed depending on how long the preceding match goes for, but it will not begin before 6am (AEST).

For Kerber it is her chance to claim her second grand slam women’s singles title of the year after also being victorious at the Australian Open.

She will finish this tournament ranked as the No.1 women’s singles player in the sport after also finishing as runner-up to Serena Williams at Wimbledon.

She defeated Williams earlier in the year at the Australian Open, but at Flushing Meadows, it was Kerber’s opponent-to-be, Pliskova, who knocked out the dominant American.

Pliskova has had an incredible tournament, having never progressed further than the third round of a grand slam before, but now finds herself in contention to win a title.

It is only the fourth time she has ever competed at the US Open and the second time that she had made it past the first round of the tournament.

Her rise into the final also included wins over seeded players Venus Williams and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Kerber’s biggest scalps from the tournament so far among the seeds have been Roberta Vinci and Petra Kvitová.

Keber will head in as the favourite ahead of the match, priced at $1.53 with betting companies to get the win.

Pliskova on the other hand is out to $2.52.

However it is hard to argue against Pliskova being the more impressive of the two, given her win over Serena Williams.

Kerber is certainly the more experienced when it comes to playing in big matches and that may prove to be the difference given Pliskova has never gone this deep in a grand slam before.

Either way, it looks set to be an entertaining battle.
